stock clutch question
I am at the dealer today for the same problem with my xB. It is because the 1st gear and Reverse gear do not have synchros. I was told by toyota that putting the car in first while rolling is bad news bears, just a characteristic of the tranny, it is not a bad design, because allowing the car to easily go into first while rolling will do much more damage(thanks tranny classes). The thing with reverse, you should be able to put the car in a different gear real quick to align the synchros and then try again to put the car in reverse. that should work, hope this helps.

I am wondering if anyone out there has had a problem with their clutches or trannies because i take it pretty hard on the car and wouldnt be able to afford a repair like that. hopefully it would be covered under warranty but i doubt it. i dont know why either the shipment to south florida was bad or all the drivers down here that owned those cars were bad because according to the service guy they all hard blown trannies or clutches(more clutches than trannies).... thanks in advance guys
I think the reason why I prematurely wore out my clutch was because of heavy rims.
I've switched to lightweight rims and lucked out w/ a new OEM clutch on eBay. The guy had installed the TRD clutch at the dealer and had no need for the OEM clutch. I won the bid at $36 + $15 shipping. One of those rare lucky moments, I guess.

I used to have the squeaky clutch pedal assembly. Took it in MANY times and all they could figure out to do was lube the assembly. At least 3-4 times this didn't work.
Then one time i went in again, they gave me the car back and NO SQUEAK! I asked them what they did, and they said they just "lubed the hell out of the whole assembly"...
I've STILL had no squeaks to this day (6 months later). so of course, i'm thinking they probably did more than just lube something, cuz theres NO WAY it would have lasted this long. And i've had NO squeaks. NOt even in rainy weather, which is when it used to happen the most.
Makes me think theres some things about the tc that SCION hasn't been totally upfront about.
Ps. I have a early production model. Received in OCt '04

I've done the grinding into R when rolling back. I just grit my teeth and hope for the best when I have to do it. Best thing to do it uh ... use the break to stop, shift, and roll on. That almost sounds too easy, but I'm guilty too.
to go back on topic, I haven't had any trouble with my clutch or tranny yet, but I'm only at 8k. I practically had to relearn on the tC when I drove it off the lot, and the loose clutch really made it harder, but its all good now. I slap myself if I catch myself slipping and either pull some Lazy shifting off or rie the clutch.
Yea, not worth taking it to the dealer over...they will tell you there is nothing wrong...they happen to be right, just the way the car was made - just release the clutch and try again, should be smooth
