haihengh - Thanks for asking because I was going to ask the same question. Well? Tell us if it's manual or automatic, city or freeway, and if your breaking it in carefull or driving it like you stole it.

it's way too early to tell. the cars have to get broken in first. when i bought my focus, my gas mileage increased as the car was broken in.

My mt tC just hit 1000 miles today (end of the break-in period according to the manual) so it may be a little early yet to tell.. But, I have been getting about 26-28 mpg on 87-89 octane fuel.

Is that 5sp or auto? And do you drive mostly hwy or city streets?

Thanks!

so, the EPA 22/30 really hold up to be true?
i am trying to convince myself to get a tC instead of xA. gas mileage is the biggest thing since i need to drive like 100+ miles a day to work.

I did say mt (manual transmission) ;)

I have been driving about 50/50 highway/city including some open interstate driving (I-25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe -- in fact this last take included testing how fast I could go in the tC :D). It also may be of note that I live in the foothills of the Jemez mountains and commute between 6400 and 7200 feet.

For those of you who have the tC, which octane gas do you guys use? 87 or 89? I know it can run on 87, but is it smart to use 89 or even 92 on a new car for a while?

The tC's MPG for Manual is 22/29 (City/Highway) and Automatic is 23/30. I got this info from Scion tC offcial website.

I have an auto...first tank went to 380 miles before i filled it ..still had about a gallon left in it..so i got around 26-27mpg...was a mix of hwy/city..and i got on it hard a couple of times..and the hwy cruising was around 75-80...so the mpg is better than i expected...my 99 New Beetle auto claimed 22/28 and used to get around 20 in real world driving so i'm happy...more horse and more mpg w/the tC

You are not doing the math properly stating 48mpg on a xB. That is just not realistic.

I have an auto, and it's supposed to be like 23 mpg, and I've put 102 miles on it as of yesterday (63 miles in one day of cruising, lol), and it had one mile on it when I got it, and a full tank of gas, and it's barely 3/4s left, so I'm extremely happy (had an Olds that ate gas before).

so despite what the EPA mileage says, is the manual getting more mileage than the auto on average?
