Are the PRNDL lights supposed to light up where you shift? I can't remember if the letters light up or if it's only in the dash that lights up, but before I make an appointment and look like an idiot, I'd like to know for sure. Thanks.

Are you talking about the lights on the guages or the shift bezel?

I'm talking about where you actually shift the gears; the lettering near each gear I thought was supposed to light up. The lights on the dash that indicate what gear I'm in light up fine.

When you switch on your city lights or your real lights, the lettering should light up. If it doesnt then yep somethings wrong

Yeah, when the lights are on, the letters don't light up. That's what I thought when I noticed it this morning but wasn't sure. Thanks.

Exactly what I was talking about, thanks for posting the pic. I don't know why mine went out so fast.

its not too hard to get in there and switch out the bulb yourself.
put it in neutral
pop off the bottom half of the console at the silver trim
then pop off the peice thats left around the shifter and the bulb will be connected to a big clear piece of plastic that is clipped underneath that last shifter cover piece.

the piece with the gear labels is a pita but it does eventually unclip free and try not to move the thin black peice that moves around the shifter pole, but if you do make sure its lined up correctly before you put it back together or you wont be able to shift, well trying with it like that would just about destroy it.

.....and after all that it still really isn't hard at all.

I hate to resurrect an old thread but, is it just me or did anyone else have their PRNDL light burn out really fast or never work?

Mine went out on me at about 75,000 miles. I just bought a bulb and replaced it myself. The bulb only costs like $1.
