Default Unexplained rattle in my tC

I know there are tons of threads about rattles and noise with the tC but nothing here seems to work.

I played around with the hatch and the license plate but that doesn't do the trick.

What worries me is that it seems that a rough idle is causing it, any time I'm sitting at a red light or if I'm just sitting there to keep warm because I'm early wherever I was going. I don't notice it with the general driving noise or any bumps on the road. Also, I've noticed that when the rattle starts, if I rev up a little, the rattle stops - even if only revving slightly over 1krpm. I was thinking muffler but I'm having trouble catching it when I'm not in the car to get a better idea of where it's actually coming from.

Anyone else had anything like this?

Do you have a cold air intake installed?

ill quote this, i posted this in another hatch rattle thread in Oct 2007.

They replaced them brand new and was fine for about a month. I start hearing it again. Didnt bother me much because i had the sunroof rattle. I took that into the dealership and they replaced my rear top glass completly. I still get some rattle in there so i need to take it back. I now start to hear the hatch bouncing a bit harder than before and really annoyed me. I remember seeing that TSB and it was about foam tape and hammering down the striker lock thing. I did hammer the striker lock thing but still had the rattle. Yesterday after work i went to go fix this problem for good. I take the same route to work everyday and know where i hear the hatch bouncing up and down. Its now silent. Only thing needed is electric and foam tape for this project.

Wrapped it about 3 times. Dont get crazy or it will be harder to close the hatch.

i think the electrical tape method really is the one that worked on this rattle. The others are just for a little extra if needed but i did it anyways. After its done, do a test run and you should be happy i hope?

Well if this isnt the thing with the hatch lock..then it could be (and it sounds like it could be) your exhaust rattling up against something under the car..even if its the stock setup. If the midpipe or whatever is off by only a little bit..it will hit up against this shield looking thing..i had this problem and just jacked it up..and kinda yanked the exhaust away from the thing it was hitting, just enough to get it out the way. Look under your car and see if that could be it..or take it to the dealer.

^^and i say this because of what you said about revving the engine and it stops for a sec then comes back,,It happens at idle.

Didn't see that thread Yanki, thanks. Now that I've been listening more I've heard the hatch rattling some but it's not the same sound that I hear at idle. I'll give that a shot and see if it helps.

I still do think it is more likely the exhaust. I haven't had much time to jack it up and look. I'm hoping at least for some dry weather soon. Thanks Scionman.

As far as dealer, I'm pretty much broke and out of warranty so that's a no.

I think I also have this rattle. This damn car is turning into a rattle trap. I also have developed a rattle out of my drivers side windshield defroster vent when the sub hits. Really annoying.
