Dont worry about the brake dust, it wont stain the rims in any normal amount of time. The real issue is not the pads, it is the large open areas in the wheels. Every car with disks has this to some degree, it just doesnt get through as much on some.

The hatch has been discussed.. it does have a release.. all you have to do is lift up on it, which presses the button... A release wouldnt do anything. I mention this because someone almost paid to have a release installed with his alarm untill he realized that it would serve absolutely no purpose. Exactly the same as many BMW trunks are set up.

I dont have the 06, but I can see your concern with the iPOD. But that is just an issue with using an iPOD. With me it is the mp3 discs with multiple folders I create It is a pain to try to get to what you want.

But, on to what I was going to say The other thing I have found I dont like about the tC other than not having a telescopic steering wheel is the fuse panel under the dash.. someone should be beaten with a hose for putting it where they did It is a pain in the **** to get to and see what you are doing.

Take it to the dealer! It should not be coming on no matter how hot it is out. If you have a reader or diagnostic tool, you can pull the codes, but under warranty, right after taking it home it should go straight back to them.

it's hot as hell for sure, but I'd be taking it back for them to deal with, because no car should throw a cel because it's hot out.

well alot of people are bent because they have to unlock it first before the handle on the trunk works. but what they don't realize is that the door unlock button unlocks ALL the doors, including the trunk, so it essentially IS a trunk release.

oh, and I friggin LOVE the mp3 disc thing, especially the fact that I can organize it all into folders and what not. I love fitting all seven TOOL cd's on one disk and still having space for more. Each cd has its own folder, each track is numbered just as it should be, and I find everything perfectly. the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the lcd screen doesn't scroll the text when the title is too long to fit.

That is the point I was trying to make on the hatch as well. People seem to forget how any hatch works. On a normal car, you:

1) Pull Hatch Release
2) Go lift hatch

On the tC you:
1) Push unlock button
2) Go lift hatch (since the lift area unlatches it with the button)

On the tC, if the doors arent locked, you actually only have step two. So it is easier. There is no purpose whatsoever for a hatch release on this car. It is built into the handle you use to open it.

Ditto on the LCD not scrolling as well, it would be nice, but still decent for a stock system. I dont carry any original CDs in my car (so if something happens I lose a bunch of cheapo burnt cds), and like you said, I can pop in one cd and hear 5 Atmosphere albums, a bunch of white stripes, clutch, tool, etc... and on road trips I have a bunch of cds with 130 random songs on them. I got spoiled on the mp3 decks on the first one I ever bought

i wish the hatch had something for me to grab onto to pull it down. i usually just grab right under the license plate. i wish it had a handle on the inside of the hatch or something

^^ It does have them on the inside of the hatch. Some people have not noticed them. There are two big handles made into the hatch on either side of it. Just reach up and grab them.

they are a bit awkward, but they're there. to use them, I either have to pull the hatch down fast enough to get my hand out of the way and still have the hatch close, or just pull it down part way with the handle and then push it closed from the outside, but that kind of defeats the purpose of handles. I just grab under the license plate.

oooh thats def good to know cuz closing the hatch is one of my only complaints because im kinda short and trying to reach up and pull it down is close to impossible.. i have to like, jump up to reach high enough to be able to get some sort of grip on the back to pull it down haha. im def gonna go looking for those handles now!

and my only other complaint, which lots of people have mentioned.. is the passenger seat not having a memory thing cuz then when people get out of the back i have to reach over and push it back manually and its a pain in the ___.

other than that i love my car!!

My Check Eng. light went off. The day i picked up the car my sale's rep, one over filled my gas tank and two left the gas cover loose. Don't know if that can turn the light on. I called him as soon as i got home. He said to just loosen the gas cap and then tighten it until i heard two clicks. Well the light still stayed on, but after 5 minutes it went off. Hasn't turned on yet ethier. Any way i got a warrenty and i'm a semi-noob with a 5-speed. One for thing i hate about my tC. Where i live there are many bumps, you can't avoid them. I hate when a bump makes my radio cover open by it's self.

yeah, I'm pretty sure a loose gas cap will make your cel come on.

as for the radio cover, I've never had that problem, but mine did start squeaking last weekend while I was driving down a dirt road. just had to close it to make it stop, but it's the point of the matter. I think someone said there was a fix for it, but I'll probably just get a tCover anyway and hopefully that'll solve it.

I wish there was an optional V6 or an optional turbocharged 4. the supercharger needs to be less expensive...u can go out an buy a turbo kit for the same price and get 50 more hp than with the supercharger. they need to make it easier to get the headlights off. it was a pain trying to put my new headlights in. But does anyone know of a good website to get awsome vinyls? thanks

Mostly things that have already been mentioned...

1. The hideous amber gauge lighting (why does ANY manufacturer use this color?), why put an 8 color-changing head unit in a car when 7 out of 8 of those colors are going to clash with the ugly stock lighting?

2. Clutch is mushy as hell, took some serious adjusting to feel comfortable with it.

3. When I had to brake hard, the car felt like it's suspension was made by Jell-O.

4. Lack of power, and the fact that even despite this lack of power from the 4 cyl, 160hp engine you still get

5. pretty unimpressive gas mileage.

Honestly though, I knew I was buying an economical vehicle, and I wasn't expecting the build quality or speed that I'd have gotten if I'd bought more of a sports car (all of which I considered would have required premium fuel anyway, and were significantly more expensive for my insurance). Regardless, I'm still happy w/ my new purchase.

6. I almost forgot the one thing that I didn't see mentioned thus far...the material used to cover the top of the center console / armrest. That ____ has got to be the least comfortable material ever, it tears my elbow up something fierce, I absolutely hate it.

don't be discouraged. notice that most of these complaints are just unrealistic in the first place. more power, rear wheel drive, better gas milage being three of the biggest complaints, yet they 1)couldn't all happen on this vehicle, and 2)a car that does have these things would be in a completely different class, nevermind price range. If you wanted a car that's rear wheel drive, has alot of power, sips gas, blah blah blah, then I will tell you now, don't buy a tC. other things that are mentioned, like passenger seat memory, softer arm rests, different color gauge lights, you name it... are all just minor nuances of the car, most of which can be resolved in the aftermarket, and none of which should be reasons to NOT buy the car.

in the end, don't let anyone make up your mind for you. the tC is a great car. take one for a drive, decide for yourself if it has enough power, if it stops hard enough, if it handles to your liking, decide if 28 mpg is enough for you (and for a 2800+ lbs car, I think it's pretty good), and buy the car or don't buy the car. and remember, any time you have this many people gathered on one message board, posting in a thread about what they don't like about the car, you're bound to get a pretty extensive list, but that doesn't mean that the car is in any way a 'bad car'.

after much searching, I finally came across a dusty old thread that I think we should resurrect. So what do you all like best about your tC?
