Default What do you think of this dealer visit? Question...

I just brought my car to the dealer because there is a really annoying clunk when I accelerate moderately hard. They told me to come down b/c they wanted to speak to me and that i'll have to bring it back. They said that the rear struts (and yes i'm using the right word, they said the tC doesn't have shocks, is this correct?) were blown and that I need new rear struts. I got bummed b/c I thought that would be expensive. So he then says "its all covered under warranty, not to worry. It might be a few days to get them in however because I have to order them from TRD". I of course am not going to complain, but why is he ordering me rear "struts" from TRD? I have TRD springs/sway bar, but the shocks/struts are stock. (I installed the TRD springs by the way and they installed the sway bar). So, are our stock rear struts from TRD or is he ordering me the performance ones for some reason? Also, if they are the performance ones, then is it okay that I have the stock front struts in???

Thanks for the help guys!

I'm not too sure why stock struts are being covered under warranty; they are considered normal wear and tear.

well... i'm thinking it's because they don't have any stock struts laying about from other installs and for them to order the oem strut..

it usually costs more money than the upgraded TRD ones.... odd how that works out.. but most oem stuff are insanely more expensive than others...

for example... oem brake pads vs. the TRD brake pads?
TRD costs less.

and also.. yeah.. stock struts blowing out because of having trd springs would be wear and tear... but depends on how many miles i guess you have really had it...

hmm... if they're going to replace the struts.... they need to do it all around and not just the rear.

Thanks for the detailed info squalllheart.

So what you're saying is that since he said TRD, he IS actually giving me the trd rear struts in place of the oem?

He said that he only ordered them for the rear, should I tell him that if they are really the TRDs, then they need to be for the front as well?

By the way, is the term strut for the rear correct?

I don't know why he's not charging me, but he said its covered under warranty even though they didn't install them...who knows, but i'm not going to complain!

strut and shock for the most part can be used interchangably.

hmm.... i don't know the actual numbers for the value of the oem vs the trd strut.... but it's possible that he ordered the trd's

if so.. yeah.. make sure he gets the front too.

and yeah.. whatever.. i'm not complaining about warranty service....

lol yep, alright, so i'm going to call him to confirm that he is putting on the TRDs, and i'll make sure that he is going to do the fronts as well. I hope he isn't going to make me pay for the fronts though...
