When you are braking and the ABS system kicks in, can you actually hear it or just feel it in the brake pedal?

it sounds like you broke your caliper. Youll know when it kicks in. You dont need to ask . I encourage you to try it. Drive 45 mph and slam the brakes.

Ahhh... I kind of thought I might hear it or really know, or should at least. Sometimes when I am slowing down for a light or stopsign or something if I hit a bump (and not a big one) the pedal gets real solid and the car just doesn't want to stop. But I don't really feel the pedal pulsing and don't hear anything major. I have been waiting for some rain so I can test the ABS without having to slide my tires on dry pavement.

It actually sounds something like..

"RUM RUM Rum rum rum ruummm"

Hard to describe online, but its got a definite sound and feel to it. I encourage you to find a huge empty parking lot and try it out.

I will go do that... it woul dbe good to find out if I have a problem sooner rather than later. I bet I can "borrow" a Sam's Club parking lot after they close, I think it has a little loose gravel on it to help.

I had some people step off a curb in front of me and I got into full ABS. I think they were more afraid of the sound the car made than they were fo me hitting them. Its really noticeable when you get ABS. I notice the same thng when slowing for a light on uneven pavement. The pedal gets a funny feel and youll hear a little sound form the brakes

If u want to test the abs, get on a wet road and slam on the brakes. The pedal vibrates or throbs up and down and theres a loud clicking type noise. It may feel like you're losing control, but they do the job.

I dont suggest testing it on wet road. You might get an accident lol.

yeah, tell me about it. You're right though, that is good advice, Pete Schwetty. I was driving on a highway in the middle of a torential downpour. I barely hit the brakes and they locked up, the ABS came on, and I was hydroplaning sideways down my lane at 50 MPH for about 8 seconds. I came about 2 feet from sideswiping a Honda.

last winter i was braking on I believe it was ice.. and i heard a sound that made me laugh.. never heard the ABS kick in before..

It really sounds like a duck quacking.. qwwaaack.. qwwwackk.. with a bit of a "spring twang" at the end.. i was only doing 20mph so i could laugh and not worry about hitting something.. but that's my take on it.. a duck qwacking..
