What is the Scion tC's alternator rated at?
How many amps can that sucker generate? Can;t seem to find this info anywhere. There are a couple posts about replacing the alternator, but none which actually say what amperage the stock alternator can handle

hey.. it's actually 1200 watts according to the service manual.. which is actually 100amps.. i thought that was pretty high.. usually the civic's are like 75amps.. so hey maybe they anticipated people dropping amps in the car..

Was worried because a 500W system pulls an estimated 72amps at peak. I don;t listen to music ridiculously loud, so I figure I will never pull more than 40-50 amps off the alt with my set up during an everyday use. This leave 50-60 amps to run the car, which should be enough.

I am on a calling list for an alternator company so that as soon as a high output alternator becomes available I will be notified. Right now i am currently running about a 160 amp system that does really well but only because i swapped out the battery under the hood with a Kinetik 1800 series and have two Kinetik 800 series batteries in the hatch. My big problem now is that im changing out the system to about a 400-450 current amp system so the factory alternator is going to have issues. I will be using in this setup 2-3 of the 2400 series Kinetik batteries but that won't matter if I can't keep them charged up.
the problem why NOBODY makes a high output alternator for our car is that we have whats called a "hair pin" design winding meaning that instead of using round wire for the coil the wire is more like a square wire. I will post as soon as one becomes available. I will have the new system possibly before the alternator as well so i'll be posting up pics of that as well........its going to be LOUD though!
