Default What type of ecu is on TC

I want to get some type oc computer software and hardware that will allow me to show customized readouts. They say what types of ECU's they can work with but I am not sure what I am looking for in terms of compatability. If anyone has any insight on this or uses some kind of digital gauges please let me know. Thanks.

Ummm....a Toyota ECU? An OBD-II ECU? Dunno what you're looking for, man; very vague question.

A Toyota ECU is probably the only thing you will get out of most people. And probably its the same one they use in the Camry, though it may be tweaked a bit.

Why not list the product you want to buy and someone may have seen it and can tell you.

OBDII output is standard, does not change from vehicle to vehicle. The only thing that changes is the OEM codes and OEM data portion of the readout. For that, the software will have to be set up for it, just like buying that functionality for a scan tool. But the type of actual ECU is irrelavant if you are reading from the OBDII port.

There are two main sets of output from an OBDII system. There is generic data, which is mandated to be standard across all cars and has to include all main emmissions related data (90% of the time you can troubleshoot with this data alone). Then there is the OEM data. This is manufacturer specific and includes a lot of other parameters for the vehicle, including any custom commands for a particular car (with the right tool, you can operate door locks, pulse injectors, etc on cars with those parameters available). This data set usually requires a specific plug in for the software you are using.

But other than that, the output is the same. It is like reading from a serial port, regardless of pc brand or model, the serial output is a standard.
