Solara SE Sport & X-Runner, but then I always wanted a small couple to customize and the tC was the only one I wanted because of the value and standard options it came with. I couldnt find any comparison to it. Took me some time to decide, I even had a deposite for the X-Runner..then the gf came in and reminded me of the gas prices . I dont regret any bit of my new tC! Love the car.

I guess you can call me an intruder or outsider.
I actually got the Mazda3 and 2nd the tC.
I think the looks of the Mazda3 is what finally got me.
I think the Mazda3 five door looks hot!'
My third choice was the Camry Solara

either an 03 sentra 2.5 (which isn't bad considering it has the same 175 HP I4 that the altima 2.5 has) or a Mada 3 hatchback.

Element was in the same price range..pay for a roomie vehicle or a nice fun vehicle to drive. however 45 miles commute to work in traffic is annoying.

Originally, I wanted a GTI 1.8 turbo or a newer Camry. I drove the GTI and it was sweeeeet. Then I went to my Toyota dealership to try the 06 Camry (I had an 03), when I happened upon this whole Scion thing. The xB seemed interesting with good gas mileage. But then I noticed the TC! And I said wait a minute! This looks like my first car, a '79 Plymouth TC3 (I'm sure none of u know what the hell car I'm referring to)! The similarities were shocking. They looked alike (both are/were sport coupe long hatchbacks) and they had similar sounding names (TC/TC3). So I had to drive one. It had the same pick up as the GTI, and the TC included a sunroof for several thousand less! Booyah!

Then I negotiated the price of my trade in, bought the TC, and now here I sit reading message boards while waiting 6 weeks for the damn thing to sail over from Japan!

I think If the tC offered navi and projector HIDs, None of the people who considered the mazda3 would have even thought twice about it. I know I wouldn't have. I know people are gonna say that with the money you save you can do it better aftermarket, but you wouldn't be able to build it into your financing. I know I didn't have $3000 to drop after down payment and first monster sized insurrance payment. I hope toyota is listening and will expand the option list for future tCs

RSX-S or the TSX were my other choices... didn't like the Premium Fuel issue, had that with my BMW and hated it with gas at $3.29 per gallon in LA.

Mazda 3 5 door was our other choice. For a base model the dealer told us we'd be looking at 21k OTD. That didn't really fly with either of us so we bought the tC and couldn't be happier.

Mazda3. But to get a sunroof, it would've cost more than the tC.

My best friend got a 3, and in all honesty, I'm glad that I got my tC. (no offense to any out there with a Mazda3.)

i always drove german cars and kept them for a long time.

when "new car" time came and the audi had to go, i did a lot of research and luckily, had a check in hand for whatever i wanted (within reason.). i briefly considered a new A4 but the new body style turned me off big time (an expensive jetta). the A3 was underpowered and overpriced and i couldn't afford the S4....then i saw a tc and there was no second choice.

i was dealing with dealers for two months until i found the exact one i wanted. it was a mission.

for the money, this is the car.
