Default Brakes creaking sound when pressed...

Hi guys,

Ive been having this problem for a bit now.
Whenever i push the brake pedal i hear a really annoying creaking sound, even when the car is of and standing still. Sounds like a metal grinding noise. I think its loud enough for you to notice if you pay attention outside.

Does anyone have an idea or has run into this before? Any help would be appreciated?

tnx in advance

has GQQSE or LostCause, have either of you checked the sliding pins? I'm wondering if the caliper is hanging up?

Also, have you applied brake grease to the back sides of the pads? There was a TSB about caliper noise that Toyota put out, it said to apply brake grease to the front "fingers" of the caliper. The front is the side you see from looking at the car. Those fingers slide over the outer pad. They said to grease up the backs of the fingers as they touch the pad. I know I had noise and I fixed it with some brake grease. used some cool hi-temp grease, ceramic blend.

i have had random braking noises from various things, first i heard a loud annoying creaking and squeeking when applying the brakes. turns out it was a worn bushing on the control arm. another is when i JUST changed the brake pads. they had to be worn in for them to shut up :] but greasing it should help if anything. personally i never use grease.

some pads need them some dont need grease. Depends on the harmonics that the pads set up in resonance into the rotor. The grease just dampens this harmonic and you dont hear it anymore. this way the vibration is outside human hearing. with my pads I had to grease it up and using the toyota tsb i found on noise, it stopped the problem (posted earlier to grease the outside fingers of the caliper)

Hiya guys,

Im sad to report that the creaking is back with a vengeance. A bit louder now and very noticable from the outside.

I notice it gets worse when hotter.

Imagine the sound of and old creaky ships hull when pressing the pedal.

Any ideas guys im desperate.

Are your bolts all tight and torqued to spec? I had a loud creak/pop when I pushed the pedal in. Turns out my top caliper bolt had started to back itself out. Make sure everything is tight and in place.

The more mysterious the sound becomes, its quite possible its a simple fix. Our brake system is one of the easiest to work on and diagnose. If worse comes to worse i would take everything apart and re-assemble.
