Get a friend or someone superbly mechanically-inclined to help out?

This DIY I'll be likely putting to use sometime, but I'm goin to have to take a look under the car to see it if there's any preventive measures I can take to stop the boot from ripping or leaking at the clamped ends.

The job wasn't that hard. Just follow the DIY.

However, I suggest anyone who does this gets a pair of snap ring pliers. The snap ring gave me a hard time. Everything else was straight forward. But next time I'll just change the axle instead of the boot. I replaced my boot a few weeks ago and my axle is already popping and clicking -__-

^Was the boot ripped or torn before the replacement, any grease lost?

I could see where the boot is kind of tearing into itself, been thinking of maybe doing a bead of black RTV sealer where it's wearing down. Nothing torn yet.

It was shredded. Was like that for about a week. So that could be why lol. But still, my other one is about to go if it hasn't already. I'll probably just do the whole axle. The OEM axles lasted a good 2 years. Not bad.

I don't have any disposable funds for axles, so if I can replace the boots before they shred it'd be great. I'd like to keep running with the original axles lol.

I'm just saying, It was kind of a let down to hear popping and whatnot only a week after replacing the boot. I thought I caught the torn boot fairly quickly. There was no popping up until recently. I don't care if it pops forever - as long as I don't have to drop money for an axle. But I will sooner or later :/

Guess tires won't be the only thing I'll have to set money aside for, add axles to the list. Seems the consensus that aftermarket axles have issues with vibration/out of balance and are hit or miss.

Quick question. Im about to buy two new axles. They dont have the oem style shaft dampeners! Does anyone have a site that sells them for cheap? If not they sell a dampener clamp. Will this clamp work on aftermarket axles? Advise is welcome!

No. Ive been riding on shreaded boots for a while. So i went out today and bought two duralast axles from Auto Zone. They dont have the shatlft dampeners but the guy said they are balanced and shouldnt vibrate. Im going to rebuild the stock axles with stretch boots eventually but i need something for right now.

So...how do I get the new snap ring on? I don't see how snap ring pliers would help since there are no holes in the ends. My car is in peices and I can't get that one piece on to put it back together!

Yeah those are real pita. What I usually do is try to catch one or both sides of the opening in the grove. While holding it there, use a little flat head screwdriver on the other side of the ring. Just pry it against the shaft and pull one side away, that should open up the ring a little. Usually take me a few tries to get it on there because of all that grease.

Great DIY. Looks like I'll be doing this for the drivers side next weekend. In the photo below, what is the C ring on the left for? I saw the right C ring is the snap ring that holds the spider onto the axle.

^ that c ring is to hold the driver side axle from popping out of the transmission. i know it doesn't look like it holds it in but popping the driver side axle out is a pain.

I just changed my drivers side inner CV boot, but I didn't use the C ring. I didn't know where it goes since I didn't find the old one during the install process (I kept an eye out for it). I didn't pull out the axle (per the original poster's instructions), so I guess thats why I didn't see or need the C ring. I hope I didn't miss something

Default Boot Kit Difference: Left vs Right?

Thanks for your time

Will to replace both boots -will use boot kits for both axles. wondering if is any difference on left and right boots sets?

--On the auto part said is only one kit for both axles (04427-44050 Boot Kit) but searching a bit I find there is a Left Kit = (04428-42110) Source : https://parts.olathetoyota.com/auto-...nd-joints-scat

Will take me a bit to go back to Autoparts to see if have that Left one to check for any differences
