Hey guys, my 07 tC had the red TRD struts in it when i bought the car, and they are now shot and need replaced. Well it was nice to have the TRD struts, but for the price difference and the way i drive the car, it just isnt worth it to me to put TRD back on it, so im going back to regular factory struts. I was wondering, can i buy just the stock strut, or will i need to buy the whole strut assembly with the spring and all?

 

Your TRD springs are shorter than stock so yes, you'll have to replace them. I'd consider aftermarket "quick strut" assemblies. The price of Toyota strut parts might exceed the value of the car, particularly since you need all 4 springs.

The down side of quick strut is the coil spring. It's likely to stand a little tall or squash a little short. I put a set of fronts on a Camry and it rides ~1/2" taller than typical. On the bright side, you need all 4 so at least they'll match.

 

Sorry I searched around before posting but just now found this thread. The consensus from that thread seems to be that it will be fine, just possibly wear out the shocks sooner.

Oh, ok. I thought you didn't want the low ride. Cool. Toyota bare bones struts are $200+ each. You can probably get vehicle specific Monroe or Gabriel struts for ~$75 each. The misc parts will probably run another hundred or two, depending on brand and retailer.

 

no i like the low ride. but i found a full set, front and rear for $87 free shippping on amazon. they are bare bones, then ill buy boots but think i should be able to re use the rest of the parts from the old struts. and ya i know, you get what you pay for so they might not be the BEST, but i think they should last me the rest of the life of this car, it up to liek 165k now and ill probably be looking into a new car in another year or 2, they should hold up that long at least id think
