Default Tough to Shift when its cold

I have a twm short throw shifter and when it has been under like 35 degrees engaging first gear is very tough until the car is completly warmed up. I find my self having to put the car into 2nd gear and then into first from there sometimes to get 1st engaged? Is this normal and if not is the dealer going to give me a hard time because of the short shifter? Thanks

I own an s2000 as well and it is no where near as hard to shift into gear when it is cold as this car is, and considering the S2000 is a high performance car it shoul be the other way around. I have driven many a five speed cars in the winter cold and this is the first such car that requires two or three tries before first gear cann be selected, its very annoying and disconcerting.

I have a problem getting it into second when cold. It is almost grinding. Not real smooth, you just feel it in the shifter. Then when it warms up it is fine.. Anyone else have this issue??

Mine shifts a little rough when it's cold, but it's far from a serious issue.

What do you mean by "shifts rough"? Is it a little hard to get into certain gears?

No it goes in, just not as smoothly as when it's warm. Mine is like butter once it's warmed up.

tranny fluid is really thick. needs time to warm that up.

clutch and other metal parts are still very cold and havent warmed up yet.

and you have a short throw shifter... adds less leverage making it feel heavier/harder to shift

and side note:

the tranny for the TC isnt that great of a tranny so give it some slack.

yes its normal

Actually, a short-throw would give you less leverage, which would make it harder to shift. (Longer lever = more leverage.) We know what you meant, though.

I've never ever ever had a problem getting it into first (stock shifter), but then again where I live it almost never ever ever gets below freezing. Maybe it has to do with the shifter (too short, too tight, li'l screw fell down into the works and got lodged into the wrong place...???)

Just bought a manual tc a couple weeks ago, and was having the same problem. When I asked the dealership this was their reply: "if you cruise in 1st gear too long there is a lever in the trans that makes 2nd gear difficult. (in trans-am’s it locks )" They didn't mention anything about the cold, but when mine warms up, it shifts a lot smoother.

i swapped the trans fluid for Redline MTL. it helped a bit for the cold weather shifting.
