Gas saver?
I have been thinking about get light wight rim, or get some 18". I just want to know if you save gas, and help the engine out for the long run? Really i just want to know what kind of rim will save my pocket, and car.
Sure, that will help. A good place to start is the Enkei website. They have nice, lightweight styles for a decent price. If $$$ isn't a problem, then check out some Gram Lights or VOLKS.
Yes you will get SLIGHTLY better gas mileage.
BUT...
Something to consider. If getting a light weight rim gives you 1 MPG. You will gain 14 miles on a tank of gas. So you arent even saving a gallon of gas on a tank. So say you saving $2.00 on a fill up.
Average person fills up once a week. So you are saving $8 a month.
Now look at how expensive lite weight wheels are. Your gonna pay probably $400-$500 more for a TRUE lite weight wheel over a normal wheel. (and probably not be happy with the looks)
That means the to make the savings worth it, will take YEARS!!!
So just get what you like visually!!!!

seriously, there are not cost effective measures to to increasing fuel economy.
the only ones that work accelerating leisurly, keep your tires properly inflated and maintained, don't drive around with excess weight in the car, and keep the vehicle well maintained.
other than that, there is nothing you can do. non of those stupid turbonators or gas magnets work, so don't waste your time and money on them.
you get light weight wheels to reduce unsprung weight and parasitic powerloss due to rotational mass, not for fuel efficency.
