Thanks! purchased

hopefully it comes this week so i can install the light over the weekend.

Went to my Scion dealership to see if they had the socket but they only sell them in sets of 3 (brake, turn, reverse) all wired together. Maybe i should have gotten that... 30-40$ with tax though. Oh well!

Thanks all, and maybe Scion will think it through and make the change for the 2012 version.

@Matariel: I wouldn't go through the dealer for the part. You're going to cut the hole to match the socket, not the other way around, so it could be a socket from a '93 Taurus for all it matters. I didn't even end up using a 7440 socket for my reverse lights. I went out and bought stand alone LED lights with rubber gaskets that just pop into place. They don't like up the area behind my car as well as the 7440 bulbs, but they shine in the housing quite nicely.

Default 2nd reverse/back-up light...

Just FYI so you guys know - I did some research on this, and it was confirmed by Scion of Canada. ALL Scions are spec'd out with only a driver's side reverse light. It's become sort of a Scion design element now. From the beginning, the xB had only one back-up light on the driver's side of the rear bumper, emulating cars in Europe and Japan - where this is the common practice. We're just not used to it here in the U.S. The main purpose of this lamp was always to help the DRIVER see what was behind him/her, not necessarily to signal others that the car was backing up. That's why in Europe and Japan this is the norm.

All of you guys who have modified and "corrected" this are fine with me - it's just not something I'm planning to bother with. Anyway - that's the reason the car has only one back-up light. It's not a mistake, and I really doubt Scion is going to change it unless they get tons of complaints.

^^^If it's a styling thing for Scion, more power to 'em (though I'm not a fan in it's current state). My issue is that it LOOKS like one bulb is just burnt out.

In my opinion it would have been a style had the side with no bulb been red. To me it looks like it was an after thought to not have two bulbs in production, and they saved money on not having changed the design. I am more likely to try and find some red tint for it then put another bulb in there.

thinking about doing this mod while waiting for my TWM shortshifter to come in. I looked over this thread twice, where's a good place to buy a bulb for it? I'm planning on ordering this socket from ebay:

edit: or maybe i'll just purchase from here: http://autolumination.com/7443_7440.htm

A regular 7440 bulb, like what is in the driver's side, is like $2 at an autoparts store.

Yea I went to advance autoparts and purchased sylvania 7440 bulbs. Think they're silverstars or something like that. Theyre a lot brighter, look blue in package but shine white. Bulbs are everywhere.

i'm guessing it should be worth the extra $3 to match the bulbs on left and right side?

Default cutout pattern

Here is a full size cutout pattern that I made...it might help the next guy doing this mod...

This is the first time I've attached a file, let's see if it works.

attachment works for me great timing since I was planning on doing this mod next weekend or possibly today if I have time. I just matched it up with the bulb socket and the sizing seems spot on. thanks!
