I'm looking to install a pair of 55w 6000k HIDs and I'm curious about any setups that you all may have.

Haha I know right, I'm ordering my kit tonight after work.

I was able to do a lot of hunting around and researching. I was just hoping to get a nice collection f setups from fellow scion owners to see what types of setups they found worked well with our particular lenses.

 

I'm going to be installing tomorrow, but I'm a bit confused. Why does the line that leads from the OEM connector need to run through the rubber protector if it doesn't even connect to the bulb? Would it be alright if I removed it from the protector?...

 

i carefully cut mine off. no issues here.

 

that rubber thing is just to hold it in place.. lol

 

Thanks jgrow. I went ahead and pulled the wires out of the grommet.

The directions provided by ddm tuning stated "Slide the rubber grommet up to the bulb plug which keeps the bulb protected from the elements." Indicating it's not just to hold wires in place.

 

Installation complete. DDM Tuning Raptor 55w 6000k.

I would say this photo is an accurate reproduction of the bulb color.

Really really really hated to use black tape to secure the ballasts, but the 3M double-sided tape I used was not holding very well...

 

The drivers side is easy, but like you I had trouble mounting the passenger side ballast

 

Definitely. I love the placement atop the coolant reservoir, but the double-sided tape didn't hold up! It stuck very well at first, but the next day the adhesive was virtually non-existent.

Hmmm I like that passenger side placement. I'm having a little trouble deciphering where you put your driver's side ballast though...

 

@biglilsteve: yup, but i might put the driver's ballast on the side battery where yours is at.

 

im not sure how the engine bay on the tC2 is set up but i know if you want to go for a nice sleek look most people remove there front bumpers and mount the ballast up in the fender area of under the bumper somewhere and then route the wire sleekly into the bay

 

Yeah I definitely heard that option but I was way too scared to do that as I don't have any experience with that Plus I wouldn't want to have to go through that again if the ballast ever failed.

I'm looking into Branbo HID conversion kits (4300k).. anyone know anything about them? 99$ for the conversion kits

 

Banbo's not worth the money in my opinion. My kit was $60 shipped...and that was with 2 day fedex shipping from CA to MD.

Also Banbo kits only come with 2 year warranty, while the DDM kits come with a lifetime warranty...

Plus their website is shady looking?...

Also, you may want to consider at least going 5000k. That color provides the most bright and useful light as well as provides more of an 'HID' look to your ride.

 

yeah i just saw the DDMtuning site.. i was shocked when i saw 30$. I just hope they dont bust after a month or so. Satisfied so far I take it?

Reason im trying to stay below 5000k is because of police; they're rather strict with HIDs. If 5000k has a slight blue tint to it, i might be in trouble it's gotta stay white

Very satisfied! And there are lots of people that have gone with DDM. I checked out the tC1 forum and there are people over there that have had them for like 3 years.

And I take it you have laws up in Canada regarding headlight color? 5000k is the whitest color you can get from HID. You don't get any hints of blue until you get to 6000k.

55w is, as you might imagine, brighter than 35w. This also will help you with your color dilemma because the brighter light produced by a 55w system washes out the color more, automatically making it whiter, regardless of what temperature bulb you get.

I would say a 55w 5000k system would get you 99% pure white light. I'd consider my 55w 6000k system to be at least 90% pure white. As you can see by my latest pic, there isn't really any blue there...which I love.

The only time I see blue is when I first cut on the headlights and they first start warming up. In 15-20 seconds or so, they are at the color you see above.
