Default how to remove the bolt plate off the oil filter?

Does anyone have tips to remove the plate/bolt on the oil filter? did an oil change yesterday and had the hardest time taking it off. Dealership put it so tight on. I eventually got the oil filter housing off with the special wrench tool and a breaker bar, but I tried for over an hour on the plate/bolt on the filter housing with a 3/8 socket wrench and it wouldn't budge. It's tricky because the housing starts to unscrew before this does.

Tried vice grips as well but I was scared to damage the housing as it's plastic.

I ended up not changing the small o-ring in that compartment. Not changing it makes me cringe but I don't know what else to do. I'll change it on the next 5000 miles if I could get it off!

Here's What I would try:

Use Penetrating Oil and a Strap Wrench:

I had the same issue when my car was new. I used the filter wrench to tighten the filter housing until it would stop rotating when using the 3/8 ratchet (Please note that you want to be careful with this and only tighten in small increments as necessary. Also try using a rubber mallet to hit the wrench to break it loose, instead of using a greater amount of leverage. I would personally refrain from using a penetrating oil if you dont have to because I wouldn't want any potential problems with it leaking oil in the future. Just my $.02
