Default Intake >>> CEL

Hey all,

I'm looking at putting in a Cold Air Intake (I just have a Factory Intake on at the moment).
My concern is that it will cause problems with knock sensors, oxygen sensors, etc. and I''ll be staring at my Engine Light all the time.

Need I be concerned? And are there any mods I should avoid to avoid these issues?

Thanks.

You Should Be Concerned. It depends on the Year, the Condition of your vehicle. Were there any Mods done Prior?
Which Intake are you considering on putting on? Some are problematic:

CrowJenkins 01-04-2017: "I had a 2014 with an Injen CAI and it threw CEL's like a mother bastard. After replacing the MAF (mass airflow sensor) the second time, it stopped throwing the CEL's, but it didn't run any better, and I actually think it was worse.
Sounded good, but (and I'm aware the gains on any CAI are/may/whatever be placebo) the mileage tanked and it just didn't feel.... right.... Like it wasn't shifting properly (automatic), was idling REALLY low (500rpm w/ a warm engine).
I picked up a 2016 tC last week and I'm thinking I won't put the Injen back in".

I Suggest you Read Up on: Sticky Buyers Guide: Gen2 tC Intakes Start at Pg. 1. It's a long read but, many interesting stories there.

Also use: Sticky How To Advanced Search SL (Scion Life)

If you search around, you can find horror stories with nearly any part out there.

That being said, I ran my Injen SRI for 2 years without a CEL or any issues before flash tuning (once I added a header). Still no issues. Provided you don't mess up the install, you should be fine (it's very simple). I wasn't expecting much but actually experienced better throttle response and noticeably more power in second (6MT). Not worth it for peak hp numbers but it does make the car better to drive on the low end. Would recommend.

Luv hates anything but TRD - which is a fine intake, but overpriced IMO.

I don't hate other Intakes. This is a Free Country. If you want to go with the Knock-Offs and deal with any possible issues that may arise, that is your Prerogative and your Problem.
I never said other Intakes don't work for some people, just reporting some are problematic according to their owner's posts. (CEL, MAF issues, Compatibility problems etc.)

Interesting when you do a Search All the Problems are with CAIs Other than TRD.

Hey, drizzoh. Show me all the horror stories on the TRD CAI. There are None. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Why? Because the TRD is the only CAI that is Authorize & Backed by Toyota and Guarantee Fitment to Work w/o Issues. Simply the Best and they Work.

Pricey, but Not Overpriced. What is Overprice are the many Inferior Intakes that produce No Results other than making a nice sound and looking pretty.

Show me YOUR actual Dyno Results. Before and After with YOUR vehicle. Not unsubstantiated Dyno results from the various manufacturers who CLAIM
results but, you do not know how they arrive at their figures. (taken off another vehicle? Tuned Engine? Headers, Full Exhaust? etc..)

FYI, 'butt-dyno' impressions don't count. Those claims are from peeps who can't afford a real independent Dyno Test or afraid to show their poor results from their budget CAIs.

lol..IMHO.
