Default Buyers Guide: Gen2 tC Intakes

Folks, I'm making this thread to compile data on the current and future Intakes (CAI & SRI) for the 2011+ Scion tC. If you find out about a new intake, please post information about it here

The biggest help for all of us will be if you can provide your OWN Dyno result Before and After installing the Intake so we can see the delta improvements (or drops).

2011 - Current

Photos & Notes

Injen uses a method to work with the airflow on their SRI/CAI:

Weapon R also uses a method to work with the airflow on their SRI:

TRD Cold Air Intake:
- No direct Dyno for this part as of yet.
- Overall a stock setup, with larger tubing and airbox, with an oiled filter similar to (or made by) K&N. No word on any MAF manipulation. Only intake thus far with CARB approval.

Time to switch up. I've been wanting to get something different for quite some time. I still have all my stock parts in my injen box, and this weekend I plan to put the stock intake back on.

Has anyone come across any Dyno sheets from Descendant as of yet? If you find/get one, post it up.

If all goes well I'll be running my own dyno at Ptuning in a week or so with the Injen CAI/SRI, see what kind of real numbers that thing adds (or subtracts).

At the moment there is discussion about the Injen SRI (CAI) and Weapon R SRI and how they "adjust" the air flow and how it can affect your MAF Sensor.

I'm interested to know if the TRD CAI has anything of the sort on their intake. From cursory investigation it would appear to have the same setup as OEM but with a larger diameter pipe, better filter, and a larger airbox.

As well, I've been told the Descendant SRI has nothing but a tube, so there is nothing to "adjust" the air flow as it goes to the MAF Sensor. I'd love to see a photo similar to the ones in the 1st post for the Descendant when someone gets theirs.

Watch the video, and then read up on trd's intake development. Check out the tech specs tab also. They did a dyno with the 4.0 V6 intake.

I think that photo is of one of the 'demo' attempts, and the only installed retail one I've seen on here was from 2tCornot2tC with the larger airbox, pipe to the TB, and the larger 'snorkel', along with that filter.

Pic is huge so this is just a link:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/pic...ictureid=10362

Overall the more and more I read about all this mystical magikal Intake foolery, I keep looking the the TRD and getting happy.

For now, until we get a better resolution of the water issue with the CAIs, perhaps someone can run through some puddles and quickly check the area where the intake would be, find the source and we can duct tape things closed (LOL)... Seems the SRIs are the way to go.

I had no problems with water getting into the air filter with itbeing cai. You will eventually feel a little bit of water on it though. Its not enough to cause hydrolock.

But I am sure a that the snorkel and hard tube isn't going to affect the maf sensor. Making the tubing around the maf bigger will effect the sensor. as with weapon r and takeda, their is a decrease in tubing size where the maf is. I'm thinking about getting the trd intake in july. But I am sure th the trd filter is the same as th one I have now. My dealer has the exhaust on their demo car, but no trd intake. I don't like the trd exhaust so I am ordering the legamax exhaust in @ the end of this month. Sorry to get off topic. But $375+ is a lot, but I am sure it is worth it.

Made a few changes to the main post...

Would love some input from anyone who has a new intake on their ride, how is it working out, any plans to get it dyno'd with a before/after install...

Just added some info on the Descendant CAI & their Dyno in the first post.

Looking for any folks who have gone the route of the stock setup and used a TRD, HKS, or K&N drop-in and have you seen any improvements?
