Yeah it is the worst part of the install. Just wedge that screwdriver in there, get it as perpendicular to the U-Clip as you can, push it in flush and pull up slowly but give it a good "yaaaargh" (think of MightyP on Pirate Day).

It won't come out easily, just gets looser and starts working itself out as you pull. They try using pliers to work it loose.

Well done sir. http://bit.ly/clF9i7

Pay attention to those instructions, installation is pretty easy but it is also just as easy to mess it up

As for my ride... I should just make a thread, explained it once over here:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...2&postcount=29

and somewhere else too... lol

A little tip for the next guy.. Leave the flathead screwdriver in your tool box. I tried for 5 minutes with no luck using the screwdriver. Just effing ridiculous!! Man that clip is in there. So I grabbed my big pair of channel lock pliers, clamped on the lip of the U-clip from the driver's side and pulled it right out very easily. I installed it the same way. Vice grips would work as well. Put new bushings in while your at it, the stock rubber ones are rubbish compared to Torque Solutions Delrin bushings. Overall I am very happy, both products made an amazing difference.

I appreciate all of the comments in the thread. Ordered the TRD QS from Sparks this week and a full set of bushings from TWM. Can't wait to break some clips in the console :?

I got the base bushings as well and will need to remove the console. I was thinking about the TWM shifter unit but decided to go TRD and get the TWM bushings. It gives me the stock look, shorter shift, and tightens everything up. It was easier on the wallet.

I don't think the base bushings will be necessary. My shifter has zero play with just the cable bushings and S.S.. It's almost too tight already. After owning the TRD for a week, I can see why the TWM's relocated neutral position would be a benefit. Not worth 300 bucks to me though.

Made it through without breaking anything. Much easier than I thought. QS, cable, and base bushings. VERY NICE IMO. Solid and precise.

ok here is my only concern i just order my new manual (last one was totaled) but i know i had read that there were issues with the transmissions people having to claim warrenty on both manual and auto's now does installing a short shifter like the twm one affect this warranty i know it must be proven to be the cause of the problem but is there a chance that just because it is an aftermarket piece that effects how you shift the transmission could they say its not covered easier then say the trd one

Well I dont know about the TWM shifter but if you have Toyota install the TRD quick shifter It is put under your factory warrenty so if anything breaks its covered untill your factory warrenty runs out. Just an fyi Toyota only charges 93.00 to put it in. Worth the money to me for peace of mind.

theres a little more to it than 10 mins, but at least a few of us spent the extra time and frustration figuring out how to battle the uclip for ya...(channel-locks, not a flat head)lol

Just installed mine today and it was mad sweetness. This is so worth the money. I took the advise on using the the vise grip for the u-clip and took me less than 10 min to get it out. I was looking into paying some one to do it but I decided to buy the tools and do it my self. I easily saved 50 plus dollars its a very easy install.

My Toyota dealership quoted me around $500 for the part and install... So did 3 other dealerships in Houston, I bought it off of TRDsparks for $120 and I'm gonna do it myself. $%#ing ridiculous.

if I'm not mistaken if someone were to take a lawsuits out on Toyotas install department they would win if they could prove that the time it takes to put the part in is less then the $350 they are charging for the install alone because parts is about 150 shipped and average amount per hour is $48 and I know it takes a lot less then 8hours to install
