Alpine Head Unit Defect
i went to dealer yesterday to see if they could replace my HU. But after 3 hours
, 3 explanations to them, and a phone call, all they can say is that they left my ticket open and that they called toyota to see what they say and that they will contact me when they find out whats wrong with HU.
WHAT!!?? i told them whats wrong!!! Oh n they also told me that the new HU serial number that i showed them doesnt exist....
when i first told them the new radio would have a different serial number and that i have a pic of the new serial number he sais "i can't use that because it did not come from the toyota website and stuff from the internet is sometimes faked and not real so we can't use that." But i just got a call not too long ago from the dealership for me to go in so they can get the serial number off my radio so they can order a new one. hopefully its to make sure they dnt order the same one cuz if i go back and wait 3 hours for them to put the same radio in.....
ok, so my car has had the samw problem but with the driver's door making no base, took it to the dealer. had them look at it. told me nothing was wrong. so I went out to the shop and showed the tech. He agreed and told the service writer. so now we wait.
Just got back from the dealership.
Service: we have to replace the speaker
Me: did he ( mechanic ) try it in the other car modes?
Service: yes he did
Me: did he hear the bass in the other car modes?
Service: yes
Me: then it can't be the speaker.
Sevice: well that's what our diagnostic said it had to be. We will order a new speaker and call you when it gets here.
After that I showed him the picture that MightyP put on here of the added "TB" to the part #. he said he would look into it.

I got a call from my dealer Monday wanting me to drive there so they could pull the radio out to get the part # off it. I just gave them both of the #'s from MightyP's pics over the phone. We'll see what happens next.
Son of a B. I got my tC2 Wed night and wondered why it's been 4 days and I cannot adjust the sound right. I thought I had lost some hearing in my right ear. I jump on the forums and this is my problem.
Just another thing to add to my list when I take it to the dealership tomorrow on my 5th day of ownership.

^ So I've got a question for you Scion employees out there. There has to be something somewhere that identifies the HU as the problem. Otherwise, there would be no fix, there would be no new part number, and dealers wouldn't do the swap. So where is this info? It must be written down somewhere. The idea that everyone is just making phone calls and someone in the bowels of Toyota answers his/her phone and approves this every time is ludacris.

LOL, Im sure its still internal and at some point a Service Bulletin will be announced. From what I gather by talking to parts is that the radio you got in yours was actually a refurb and thats the reason why it has the updated software, whether or not thats true, IDK. But that is what was alluded to me...
^ That would make sense to re-flash radios they have on-hand and I have no issue with it being a refurb so long as it works.
I just want to know what has been officially done. We all know nothing is official (and rarely gets done) until a policy memo, email or tech bulletin is put out. A company the size of Toyota doesn't repaint the hallway without some sort of coordination! It's actually getting to the point now that I'm getting more and more curious as to why nothing official has been put out...

my dealership isnt believing a word i say as i thought they would. showed them the pictures and told them the issues, showed it to them in the car... but then they went to another tC and played the radio and it did the same so they said "oh its supposed to do that"... ya bs... tomorrow im going to another dealership... i hate mine
