Alpine Head Unit Defect
I had my unit replaced at the dealership (World Toyota/Scion here in Atlanta, GA), and everyone there was extremely helpful. The job was done FLAWLESSLY, and the sound on the new unit is an obvious and huge improvement. Clearly this is how it was SUPPOSED to sound from the beginning. Alpine also fixed the problem of the settings staying the same regardless of the source that was selected. You can now set the tone, balance and other settings individually by source, and the unit remembers them.

seems like so far only corporate knows the issue but hasn't sent out any official bulletin or fix on it.. when i spoke with scion what they told me was that the dealership should have access to a database where the problem/fix should be available.
perhaps they are trying to keep this issue low key since i don't think it's very wide spread and i'm assuming they've fixed it on the models being sold now. since it's a rather minor problem and not a very apparent problem.

So they have it fixed on the models sitting on lots now? I'm planning on getting a tc2 pretty soon, and seeing this thread a few weeks ago had me shying away from the Alpine HU, just so I wouldn't have to deal with it. If it's fixed, then I'd definitely go with the Alpine HU.
not entirely sure. i feel like some people who recently purchased havn't reported issues but it might depend entirely on how long the car's been sitting at the lot. it's not too hard to deal with it. you could always jus try it out or make sure the dealership orders a new HU when they install it in your car in the first place.

^^
I would venture a guess that you bought a car that had the radio installed before the fix was implemented. I'm sure if you explain the situation, as others here have, your dealer will be happy to get it fixed for you!

Got my new tc today at the lot. Haven't had a whole lot of time to test anything, let alone the stereo, but from what I can tell my Alpine unit does not have the problem yal have, unless I just haven't noticed it yet. (Yes i do have it in tc mode). I don't think this necessarilly means Toyota has gotten them fixed in all the cars shipping out to the dealers now though, because I happened to buy one of the cybersale cars Toyota Corp used early on since they gave me a huge discount on it, so they prolly noticed the problem driving it themselves and had it fixed.
EDIT: Scratch that, had enough time to mess with my stereo today, and after finding out the speakers were balanced completely to the rear and that's why I could barely hear the front at all to begin with....I rebalanced it and discovered I have the same Alpine HU problem everyone's been having. So looks like they still aren't getting this problem mass fixed or anything, just hoping people that buy it won't notice or won't care. Typical big company scheme I suppose though.

At the dealer now. We shal see what they do.
EDIT
Ok so I am not happy with scion so far. So Apparently There is only one sub in the 2011 scion TC and it is in the drivers door. So when you put the alpine head unit into TC mode the base thumps the s**t out of the drivers door and makes it rattle and thats all you get. Whos stupid idea was that? I guess the same person who decided on only one reverse light. So anyway I guess since I feel that the TC mode just overpowers the hell out of the sub Im gonna leave it in XD mode for the time being. STUPID SCION PEOPLE.
