B Pillar rattles (passenger side)
Has anyone experienced the b pillar rattling (more like knocking noise)?
It happens only on the passenger side.
It sounds like hitting the plastic with a pen.
Something might be loose inside of the b pillar, but I don't know what's in there.
It's almost constant when driving at below 10 mph (like in the parking lot).
It's only sometimes when driving at below 35 mph.
I don't think I've ever heard it at above 40 mph.
I know it's not the seat belt hitting the pillar because I've already tried hanging both front and back seat belts on the passenger seat so they don't hit anything.
Nothing is in any of the pockets on passenger side, so it's not that either.
I found someone else fixing the b pillar rattle on another site for another car http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=589821.
If this is happening with everyone else too, then I don't mind.
But if not, I want to fix it.

I've been doing some research and this one (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411853) seems to be the closest one to what I got, considering when it makes the noise.
Its said to be "one of the manufacturing tolerances", which sounds to me like it's how it was designed.
But the noise is annoying me, so I want to get rid of it.
Does anyone know the proper way to remove the interior B pillar?

After 1 week of trying to locate where the noise is coming from, I finally found exactly where the noise is from. But I'm stuck now that I don't know how to remove a plastic trim to get rid of the noise. Here is what the plastic trim is ---> https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=197245
I can temporarily get rid of the noise by putting a paper or anything thin like it in between the plastic trim and the body paint. So, I'm 100% sure the noise is from there. If anyone could help me figure out how to remove that piece, it will be really nice. I probably just need to insert some kind of rubber in there to permanently get rid of the noise.

Sorry for the no-replies, and thanks for continuing to update this thread. I have heard this knocking as well. Not as often as you have, but I've definitely heard it on a handful of occasions.
Have you approached your dealer with the situation?

Might be hard for people to answer since not a lot of people have the new tcs. Way to set the way of finding the solution. Good luck!
I called the service department, and they told me I need to wait for a month for the next available appointment.
Service in this state sucks...
When I had airbag light on Toyota Corolla before, they told me I had to wait for a month for an appointment also.
Cable company, phone company, just about any company that's the only company in this state have bad service.
When I was in California for a little while, I was surprised with how every place I called had good service.
Anyways. The best way I could think of describing this noise so far is "tapping a glass with a stone".
I can replicate this noise by just pushing the very spot with my finger.
It's so weird how a plastic piece rubbing the body paint makes this kind of noise.
I got rid of the noise by placing a small piece of rubber in between the plastic and the body paint.
I wanted to remove the plastic piece I showed in the link I posted above, but I actually did not have to remove the plastic piece to do this.
I used a small hook to pull the bottom of the plastic piece to make a little gap, placed the rubber piece in, then let it go.
It worked well. No noise now from the b pillar.
BUT!!!!! Recently, I started to hear the same noise from the trunk area...
What's worse is it makes that noise at any speed (b pillar was only at low speed).
I'll probably be hunting the spot over this weekend.
But it should be easier to find it this time that I know the spot is somewhere plastic is touching the body paint.
I'm thinking this is happening with almost everyone's tC.
If you just have windows opened or stereo turned on, then you won't notice this noise.
Even when it's raining, you won't hear it.
I'm thinking, not so many people drive with windows closed and stereo turned off.
And some people don't notice it even with windows closed and stereo turned off.
Like my wife said, she wouldn't have noticed it if I haven't mentioned it.

i have the same damn issue! but on both sides. but mine doesent sound like there coming from the trim. it sounds like its coming more from the front of the car. but i will check it out. i also have the trunk thing. im thinking its the spare tire or tool thing they give you rattling around in the back. also i have a rattle behind my air conditioning vent above the stereo. when i accelerate and hit 38 mph exactly it starts to rattle. its really ticken me off. my xb did the same ____, i hate rattles! also an u be more in depth to how u fixed it? thanks.
After looking for where the noise is coming from over the weekend, I found out it was actually coming from the moon roof.
It's so weird that it really sound like it's coming from the trunk area.
All I had to do was open it a little bit and then close it to get rid of the noise.
I guess I need to open it once in a while.
Anyways, I now have a noise free car.
For the b pillar noise, what I did is pull the bottom of the plastic trim in the below picture with a little hook just enough so that there is a little space between the plastic trim and the body paint, and then stick in a little piece of rubber in between the plastic and the body.
That will prevent the plastic to rub the body paint making ticking noise.
If you already have gap in between them, then this is not where your noise is coming from.
My driver side already had the gap and didn't make any noise.
Only my passenger side had this problem.
