Agent 99 (Retirement)
So I have a question for you SL tC2 peeps out there. What CF pieces would go well with our car that aren't currently in production?
Back story. I found a local guy who does custom CF work. He's primarily a Mini Cooper guy, but has done others, including at least 1 Scion, and from what I can tell, does really nice work. I'm meeting up with him Saturday to have him look at my car and I want some ideas. I'm really hoping to get a trunk and roof for less than Seibon sells them and a one-off/custom hood for the same or less than the Seibon hoods. But before I throw down mega bucks for major body parts, I'm going to get some smaller, cosmetic stuff done (assuming the price is right). Here's what I'm thinking, but I'd like your opinions too. Maybe if there's enough interest, he'll produce more pieces.
My First Choice is a 10-Piece Dash Trim Set
- On the doors: Long silver pieces and little piece behind the handle
- Dash: Pieces around the mirror control, cluster gauge, radio/enviro, and piece above the glove box
- Silver ring around the shifter
- Plastic piece around the dome light
Other pieces I think would be cool:
- Cooling plate (yes, it's already been done, but why not competition?)
- Fuse box cover
- Oil cap, radiator fluid reservoir cap (if it's possible)
- Engine cover
- A-pillars (not sure if this will work with the airbags)
- B-pillars
- Whole center console
- Silver pieces on the steering wheel

I like it the idea. If he could make all that stuff I'm sure he would sell alot. I might buy a few things. Depending on how much carbon I do on the out side. One thing I was thinking about. Instead of make the whole roof cf. maybe we can just take out the front small glass and the rear glass and just switch those so we can keep our sun roofs? I eventually want to get carbon hatch spoiler hood and roof but kinda want to keep my sun roof.
That's what I forgot! I'll mention it.
I have no idea what any of this will cost or if he's really interested. We're meeting on Sat, so hopefully I'll know more then. I'll also ask about the pieces you mentioned. I'm interested in doing the whole roof because I want to lose all that weight.
Thanks guys, and keep the ideas coming!

Well, different topic (still want to know about the CF parts you'd like to see). Got a wild hair and looked to see if the 2012 PAX index was out for the SCCA and sure enough. Now knowing the PAX index, I'm much more comfortable staying in STF class (I'd be stupid to change actually). Going from a .820 index to .794, I might just be competitive this weekend! :D
An affordable CF lip kit would be freaking awesome. Show him some pics of the 5 axis kit or the seibon kit and see if he could possibly make those. Wither or not that's within his realm, I have no idea
other than the obvious body kit/spoilers/hatch/hood
the ones you mentioned are good plus
center console
shift **** (auto or mt)
license plate frames (would go for any car...i see real CF plates going for like 50 a piece or so)
would require more than just regular CF knowledge...but hatch dampers (the lifts)
caliper covers might be interesting and different
battery tie down
FOOT PEDALS! auto and mt...WITH DEAD PEDAL!
^^yea that one!

I learned a lot about CF today. I'm going to start a thread (with a poll) on what people would be interested in purchasing. For now, I'm going to get the hatch garnish (with the emblem deleted) started. I might also do the dash pieces.
Almost forgot. Pretty much anything can be done in CF. Drawback is many of the dress up pieces will require taking the original piece and covering it. The clips that make our car so easy to work on can't be duplicated with CF.

Figure each item would be at his shop for about a week. Most of that is drying/curing time.
His cost vs Seibon cost... Apparently Seibon some fiberglass in their large CF parts (while still lighter than steel, it's cheaper/heavier than CF). For example, Seibon hoods are ~20 lbs, he said a pure CF hood would only be about 7 lbs.
What's that mean? He can make parts with fiberglass (same weight as Seibon) for less than their asking (maybe $450 vs $600), or, for the same price, make the part lighter. Prices/weights are estimates based on a 30 min conversation and him just looking at my car, so things may change.
He also mentioned a discount with group buys. Didn't say how much, but did say he's talking 4-5 people rather than 10-20 like most buys.

Another fun track day! First, I want to thank Aaron for joining me at the track. Hopefully next time we can get Scott and Chris to join us and maybe I won't be racing the only Scion!
For the rest of you, it was a good day at the track, but certainly not my best. Results aren't out yet, but my time were way off where they needed to be to be competitive. At one point I had myself convinced it was because I need better tires (which is true), but then a guy in a stock 2012 Ford Fiesta rolling on All-Season 185/60-15 tires went out and got 1/2 sec faster raw time than me.
Needless to say, at that point my ego stood up, flipped me the bird, and walked off.
In all seriousness, I know what I did wrong, so it's a worthwhile lesson. I didn't attack the course with reckless abandon. All 4 runs were within 1/2 second of each other and not once did I hit a cone or feel like I was going to miss a turn. I was simply too conservative this time. Oh well, I have my plan for next time.
I'll post pictures and let you know the results when I get them.
Oh, and an update on the CF development. I will be starting with the silver trim on the steering wheel and and the doors.

Is it Jim with RogueSe7ens? If so, you are great hands, he is the one that did the work on my car...See this thread for information: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...ght=wiper+cowl
Got 2nd in class (Novice 3). My driving was mediocre at best, but I have no one to blame but myself. Looking back, I drove scared. I had no faith in my tires and they could have taken more than I gave them, but I know for next time (assuming I don't pick up the Dunlop Star Specs I want before then).
This is the first of 4 events (top 3 count) for the Spring 2012 series, so I have time to improve. I'll keep you guys posted. Hopefully someone will post up the pictures soon so I can share them. Next event is 4 Feb!
One more thing. 122 racers at the event!

Hey, I saw on Page 8 you replaced the cloth in the doors. How exactly did you do that. I want to get the ones from redline goods but I am not sure how to install them? If I have to take the door panel off does the cloth come out from the back?
