Gas Mileage / Weight
#42
Hey guys I just got my tC2 last week and have done a lot of driving so far and im sitting about average 26mpg a tank. I think I got around 305 the first tank before the low fuel light came on since its a new car I just filled up as soon as it came on because i was not sure how long it will last after the light comes on. And so far on my second tank its about the same I think Im sitting 270 miles with 1/4 of a tank left

Tank #3
Ok, I filled her up to the rim of the filler cap and was able to get 16 gal in her. It lasted 450 miles (light came on at 434 miles). And it appears my gas mileage has gone down a bit more than I would have thought.
Now we are trying 1/2 tanks (7 gal). I am also going without the spare tire.
I've yet to have a full road trip at 55mph or better. I'll have one next month hopefully. It's 260 miles to the base I have to reach, and I'll plan to go with 1/2 a tank.

First 1/2 tank results
Ok, this is my first 1/2 tank results.
I put in 7.2 gal. The gauge read just a tad over 5/8th of a tank.
The low light came on at 194 miles, I drove to 222 and got another 7 gal. Now it indicated just a tad under 5/8th of a tank.
If I avg'ed just a tad on my calcs, I'd have to give it a solid 30 mpg. It indicated....and don't old me to this, cuz I'm not sure if I had reset the MPG meter....31.
I discovered the MPG meter stabilizes the less you reset it. Once you reset it.......don't read it til more than 1/4 of a tank has been consumed. The more readings it has....the better it averages (duh!...lol). Instantaneous readings are somewhat useless I think.....(ie reset, speed up to 55, go up a hill and down a hill....it will say 23mpg...then 22, then 35 etc.)

i've averaging about 27 mpg after 4000 miles on the car. (manual)
i rode in a buddy's 2011 tC automatic and noticed that it cruised at 80mph at 2.5k rpm? i'm surprised the mileage rating for the auto isn't higher than the manual since i'm doing about 3.5k rpm at 80.

Just a suggestion, but for those going by the trip computer on their vehicle, if you haven't already done so, try resetting it on the vehicle at different amounts of fuel. I noticed a pretty large difference in mileage between a half tank and a full tank. I was getting about 10L/100km (23mpg) when I would always drive with a full tank. A few days ago when I installed my HIDs and disconnected the battery it reset the trip computer when I was at about a half tank and I finished that tank with 8.9L/100km (26.5mpg) with mixed driving (30% highway, 70% city approx). I usually shift between 2500-3000rpm.

I'm averaging 25-26 on mostly city (with lots of hills, similar topography to San Francisco) with a 6MT.
My Homda Fit had a 5AT that was supposed to be more efficient that the manual, a 1.5l engine, 117 hp, and the curb weight was about 2600 lbs, roughly 400 less than a tC it usually got 26-27 on the same roads.
