the rubber insulator is used to ensure that whatever is inside of it will stay the same temp.
the foil is used to deflect/reflect away heat.
so technically you could have just put the foil and it woulda increased the performance or just the rubber insulation.
to go to the next step in increasing the performance of the AC is to put foil over the rubber.
In your case the foil is kinda redundant/not necessary
regardless let us know how it works out, maybe this way is surprisingly better?
oh yeah and for going all the way to the firewall

i thought about that....
but i did not want my engine bay to look like take out food (no offense Backinblacktc2) so thats why i decided to do the whole thing just like urs
so while i was replicating ur photos...i was like...i'm already foiling it....why not just do the whole thing and see what happens? it shouldnt hurt...the entire time thinking that i wasnt going to rubber the firewall area anyways
then when I was doing the rubber...i didn't think i was going to be able to fit in the back...but i was able to...so with the remaining rubber i just covered the whole pipe to use it all up
either way...i will report how it goes when i'm back from my trip

i found mine at home depot...i dont have it with me (i'm at work) so i can tell what it is forsure...(i also might have thrown away the wrapper...)
anyway, it was differnet brand than what Scion202 put up but i read the description on the packaging and it said about things like heatshield....used for insulation...automotive use...etc

Not intending to highjack the build, but while we are on the subject of the a/c: How tight is everyones rubber? The stuff I bought is the kind with sticky tape in the groove so you can lock it together. It isent big enough to cover the rubber section of the a/c line, but is too big, as in loose, over the metal parts of the line. Is this going to be a problem?

Druidiron I forgot who said on...i think it was Scion202's thread...but something about the issue of its not tight will condensation build up inside and thus lead to rust...
well someone else replied and said that isnt going to happen because its an insulation (keep temp as is...not make it colder) so its not an issue
BUT...the tighter the better (i can see this comment going wrong)
for me...everything was not nice and snug...maybe because of the layer of foil i added? but the rubber fit around the pipe like a glove (this comment going wrong too, haha)
...oh and fyi...i dont care about thread jacking (on my thread at least) so go one and speak about whatever as related to the tC2/things i do to my tC2. only thing is if someone wants to search about an issue later on, it might be hard to find...but oh well

its hard to find...i asked one of the workers and they took me to where they were at
i think it was near the duct tape...
(oh and i did throw away the packaging...theres nothing on the roll itself that says brand..sorry)

I figure 1000 degrees is over kill, but hey, better safe than sorry!
Side note about this company: Took 6 days before they even mailed it. Then, they sent it was a signature required for delivery. Look, if I order a $500 anything, this is a service I would want. But if someone swipes my $15 tape off my porch, its not that big a deal. What is a big deal is that the tape is sitting at my local post office, and the only hours they are open, is when I am at work........I CAN NOT leave early to go pick up some dang tape at the post office. Grrrrrrr.

Ok last questions, and hopefully I can get some input from both you and Scion202 on these:
Do you guys have or see any heat damage to the foamrubber in the areas in the pictures, where the A/C line is very close to the hottest parts of the engine? This first pic, I am talking about the area where there is about 2 inches of clearance between the line and the exhaust
And then in the back where the A/C line runs right by the engine. There may be 1 1/2 inches of clearance here, and this part of the engine stays hot for hours after the car has been turned off.
As you can see, I have not done these areas yet because I cannot explain how afraid I am of my car doing this:

Is what I got, and I cant find anything on heat rating/resistance. Not that worried about it because I plan on wrapping it all in foil tape anyway, so that should midagate the heat. In the areas I talked about before, I triple wrapped the closest 4 inches to the heat source with the foil tape. That otta-do the trick. *crossesfingers*

Engine Update 8-28-11 - AC Insulation Review
Here is my official review on my AC Insulation...
I just came back from my trip from Las Vegas with my tC2, and despite the hot weather. The AC was great! and I doubt my gas took a hit, but how much better (if anything) was it really?
So for comparison this is how it usually is for me BEFORE the mod:
Approx Temp outside: 80-90
AC Settings: Fan-2, Temp-MAX AC, Vent-Closed
Comfort: Okay, comfortable, not too cold not too hot, room for improvement
And this is how it was for this trip, AFTER the mod:
Approx Temp outside: 99-109
AC Settings: Fan-1, Temp-Middle Blue Bar, Vent-Closed
Comfort: Nice and cool, comfortable
So right off you can tell that I was able to get about the same results, in hotter weather and a lower setting (thus better on gas...more on that in a little). Sometimes when the sun was burning through the windshield (i only have the sides and rear tinted) I would turn up the Fan to 2 and leave the temp at the same setting and it would keep things nice and cool. But once sun went a way....after a while I was feeling chilly so I turned it down.
As far as temperature...if u like to be in an icebox...Fan on 2 and the temp anywhere between middle to max...and ur good. anything more would be freezing anything less and its a comfortable cool environment.
Now as far as gas...The drive was about 250ish or less miles. with the AC on the entire trip (at the settings above) and drive at approx 80mph...i got from LA to LV on about a half tank of gas...not bad..and with the left over gas I just used that to cruise around Vegas as needed (it was WAY to hot to walk the strip for too long) and i didn't have to fill up until the day i left Vegas to go home
as far as the condition of the insulation...i popd the hood ONLY when i got home...it was HOT, but that is expected. and it looked like some of the insulation unstuck...but a quick push and they are holdin up again like new...i will monitor it because i am not sure if it was because of 1) the heat or 2) bad installation (myself)...it was only coming off at the ends...and some parts i kinda of forced it to stick anyways. but like i said, a quick push back together and everything was fine
overall...i think it was a great and inexpensive mod that will also benefit the longevity of the tC2...
now the way i did it (foil on everything then rubber insulation over) i can't say is better or worse compared to Scion202 (foil at ends then rubber insulation on most) or Backinblack (rubber insulation with foil over) since I haven't experienced how their rides feel after the mod.

MAF SENSOR HELP!
SCIONLIFE, HELP!
I was switching my intake back to stock...(nothing wrong with my CAI, its just CUSCO needs a stock engine bay for their test fitting/photos)...and when I was pulling out the MAF sensor....something fell out!!
i got a flash light and looked around...it found a BROKEN black rubber band looking thing...so i looked at the MAF sensor itself....
it appears to be a small rubber seal that goes on the MAF....for now i just wedged it back inside...
but where can i get a replacement part?
if i go to the dealership...what can i do/say to get them to replace it under warranty? like how would i tell them to replace it...since i technically "never touched it"
basically...what should i do?
