for those 18x9 rims 225/40/18 is recommended so i guess i'll just go with that. i dont want too much tire to add too much weight. but i still would have liked a wider tire

So i have been told by a friend who works at a tire place and is a car enthusiast that wider rims and tires increase grip but also increase drag and decrease grip in rain or winter conditions. in that case i'd just use stock rims/tires in winter but i dont want to lose out on power just by getting a wider wheel...

So i have rethought my choice and will still go with wide wheels, but only slightly less wide at 18x8.5 35offset. don't know about tires.

Also apparently Falkens are not very durable at all and wear quicker than even my stock tires...not happy with that info.

i currently have that wheel set up on my car. ended up going with a 225/40R18 for them as i rubbed hard in the rear due to my 3 inch drop. i also got a 10MM spacer in the rear in order to make the rear more flush.

Your car looks great man

so you stretched your tires (not stock) and it came out allright?
I wont be dropped that low so i could probably use 235/45R18?
I'll go with 18x8.5 rims.
or do you think 225/40R18 looks good with 18x8.5 rims?

Thank you. I wouldnt say that they are streched..... you could go with the wider tire but i didnt feel the need to. Id say for my new rims which are 18x9 i am going to a 235/40. I wanted to go with a 235/35 but i didnt. Ill see how it pans out. I like the look of mine. I cant see you having an issue but if you are worried about possibly rubbing i would stay with the 225/40R18 as you will have no problems at all

Whats your drop? thats the only issue, i was rubbing with a 45 profile and not with a 40 profile. you will probably be safe. and actually i was only rubbing when i put on the spacer so i would say that you will not have an issue with either tire size.

With any of the combos you've mentioned, you'll be fine with any of them on a TRD drop.

ok then 225/45R18 stock tire specs should do best for 18x8.5 then. thanks guys!

what actually makes the wheels stick out more? is it the lower offset or is it also the rim width (assuming it is a normal, not deep dish rim)?

Both offset and wheel width will make the rim stick out further toward the fender. Generally the lower the offset and the wider the wheel the further out you will be.

ok thank you.
18x8.5 and 35 offset should be good enough to appear closer to the fenders than stock.

plus if i have a chance to run a 10mm spacer in the back that would be cool, but at the same time i dont want to put my wheels in danger of getting rusted or whatnot.

who said that? My Falken's have lasted me for more than a year and a half and are about half way on their lifespan. I'm lowered on coilovers and don't even have uneven tire wear due to the negative camber in the rear. My stock Toyo's were already basically dead in the same time frame...including one going completely flat, and that was on stock suspension + about a month on coilovers.

my friend who sells tires for a living. based on most customers' review he gets on Falkens, they do not last long. he said only one customer likes them because for w/e reason they did not wear out on him nearly as fast as everyone else. maybe it is just driving style.

my stock tires are Yokohamas. they are wearing rather fast...

Newman,
I've found this site is a useful tool for comparing one wheel & tire setup to another, side by side. You'll be able to see how changing the offset and wheel diameter effects the distance between the wheel and fender. Just keep in mind that you are looking at a cross section of the wheel, tire, and wheel well.

Post some picks when you pull the trigger.

that's a really nice calculator, thanks!

I'll surely post pics when i get mine lowered and then again when i get the new rims. they will be black but i can later paint them aluminum to look like stock color.

I recently got the Injen intake (used). Going to install it as short ram. idk when though. weather needs to warm up again...
