In for sunroof 'extreme' rattle
I'm going in for service soon (15,000mile) and will bring up the sunroof issue with my toyota dealer. I'll update here on what they will do.
I also have either my passenger window or passenger seat rattling during driving. faint shacking sound.
my speakers sometimes give a static noise too...

"Hmm... well... I don't really want to drive or use my car for fear that it will break. It looks nice just sitting there. Or should I drive and use it so it will break and then I get a new one!"
I'm sure they'd be thrilled to hear this sort of attitude. Well put Newman.
...
I do not use my sunroof a lot, that's all. You do not have to be a jerk about it. (unless you're just trying to be funny). At anyrate I am taking it in to the dealer soon because it IS BROKEN. and it sounded broken the first time i tried to use it so it was already broken when i got the car because it's a faulty part. simple.
and taking it in while it's still under warranty is common sense. what if its never recalled (because it's still NOT lats time i checked the scion website), and they will not cover it after warranty expires?

I was slightly offended because internet made it(your comment) sound sarcastic and negative. stoopid internet.
So you think it's a good quote on the quality of some scion parts? cheapness? I bet they sacrificed a lot of durability by trying to keep this car relatively low cost (though for me its was expensive as hell. I've never bought a car over 4K before

The amount of rock chips that I have on my car is ridiculous and I've only had this car for 3 months. The paint is the cheapest around. Cheaper than my old civic. I'm planning on getting a carbon five hood tape so it can protect it from chips and will probably look nice. Win win situation.

OEM carbon hood is only $449. Shoot for the win.
I was in the dealership today and mentioned this issue of the moonroof rattle when in the tilted position. The service guy looked up the TSB and there are only two TSBs for moonroof issues. One is for "wind noise" at high speed and involves replacing a few parts, and the other is for "roof ticking noise" which involves removing the entire panorama roof and installing insulation.
After reading this thread AGAIN, I can only think that the "wind noise" TSB is for the vibrating weather strip at high speed, and the "ticking noise" is the cold weather sound when the moonroof is closed. SO NOW IM TOTALLY CONFUSED, how can I get the damn tilted moonroof rattle fixed? Some of the responses here are people saying they just gave up after trying so many times.

just set up an appointment with the dealership and mention that the roof rattles badly when it's tilted up but not open all the way. that should be enough to get them to fix it.
of course the noise has to be there so first test it yourself. tilt up roof, go over bumps and uneven roads and you should hear not only rattling but also loud crashing sounds of glass slapping against its frame.
it's the second TSB that the guy looked up. but they didn't do that on mine. all they did for me was "readjust glass and lubed components" w/e that means. took them a week just to do that lol!! ask for a rental car so they don't strand you w/o a car so you can get to work while your tC is being worked on.

So I took my 2012 TC in for the sunroof rattle on Tilt when going over bumps. Dealer replaced the sunroof assembly and gave the car back, rattles over little bumps gone but still rattles over sharp bumps. Took it back and drove with a tech to show him the problem, tested to see if holding the wind deflector or sunshade made a difference, Nope. So he put it into Toyota, Toyota warranty said they are aware of the problem but at the moment have no fix/service bulletin for it. I'm pretty friendly with the service department since I was a past employee, they said its documented and when toyota releases a fix you'll get the repair but you just have to wait until it happens.
Who knows how long it could be though. For instance my brothers 2005 TC had a problem where the trunk latch would break off if pulled up too hard or if mistakenly pulled up without pushing the trunk release button on the latch. It wasn't until 2013 or this year that toyota sent him a letter to replace it/reimbursement for if he shelled out the 300 some dollars to get it repaired...
Guess I'll have to be keeping up on toyota having an updated mailing address for me...

FYI: I have 2014 and had the sunroof warrentied from the rattle. Whatever they did helped it only half, still rattles here and there but not as much! still enough to be unsatisfied....!
now if they just warrenty my bad inputshaft bearing!
now if they just warrenty my bad inputshaft bearing!
Yes which is related to that horrible noise in neutral with clutch pedal depressed. First Toyota said its normel that noise in first... Its not never did that new. Also inputshaft bearing is faulty and there's tsb about it but hasn't been updated for 14s
right now 35000km it started quiet a while ago, perhaps 25000km?
its the tsb for older models not yet for 14, why they put the same crappy parts in the new car is odd, also if they do fix it, im sure its the same part# as what was in your car to begin with. Waiting on them to call me, scion Canada voided my warrenty because dealer where _______s to me and made up ____. also never told me unless I get what I had broke fixed anywhere else besides Toyota I void my warrenty. NO body told me that, plus I never signed nothing and theres no evedance of my car being there sept there little work order which can be bull____ made up.
Scion Canada is using my car for import fest Vancouver, promised me goodies.
yet they like to screw us scion owners around with warrenty on there ____ty cars.

exhaust wouldn't matter,
my story was I went in to Toyota saying my car is broken fix it, they charged me 140$ and said it was fine and gave me bull____ excuses.
It wasn't find under investigation I opened the valve cover, rockers fell off. I wasn't gonna waste $$ on this stupid dealer to tell me im dumb so I checked, they told me to bring the car in on a flatdeck so I did, they looked at it and said I broke the car after they looked at it, and also said I pulled those rockers out myself and said my car wouldn't run. so it wont be covered under warrenty. so I went back there pushed the car out of the dealer while they all laugh put the car as it was when they looked at it and drove it home. cost 3$ to fix like really..
Now I have this tranny problem im fighting, they say its normel there stupid! its not normal. had them look at it (another dealer) and they sent it into scion Canada. they replyed saying my powertrain warrenty is void because of the engine issue. Aperently if the car is fixed else where rather then those VERY GOOD Toyota techs I void my warrenty. NOBODY said anything about that. I picked up the car and they threw me the keys and told me to leave. they by law have to let me know these things. I went back to the first dealer and he played STUPID. "I had nothing to do with it"
So Monday scion Canada better call me like they suspost to, or ill call back yelling again. Such a crappy company.
And from research im afaid to crash because the air bags don't deploy when they should. undersensitive. oh I can rant forever. scion Canada needs to step up there game.

I don't think it's scion canada as much as its the dealers. I used to work at another companies dealership. NOBODY wants to do warrantee work because it pays significantly less than the job actually takes to do. I do know what you mean tho. I have the startup rattle and the tsb for it is not in canada lol. It should be on the car not the f ing country it's in. So stupid. But my dealership is pretty good they said they didn't here it but if I could make a video of it or figure out some way to show them they would 100% fix the issue for me.
