Default New Tires...

OK so at 31,000 miles (probably ~25,000 on the tires, I rock snow tires on steelies too) my original tires are starting to show their age, and I will probably have to pick up some new shoes for my aging gal in the summer. I'm thinking about this randomly during this sleepless night because I'm broke as all hell and need to put some money aside..

My car is at the stock ride height, and I hate the damn wheel gap on my car, but I dont want to lower it because the roacs up here in CT SUCK MAJOR ___, and I go up and down alot of steep hills/driveways so I REALLY dont want to lower it... So my question is, has anyone bumped up the tire size on the stock 18s? The stock tire size is 225/45... would bumping to 265 be an issue? Thats like an inch and a half buigger in diamter. I dont care about the speedo, but will ride/handling be negatively affected? I would hope the taller tire would ride better + protect me from curb rashing again... Making them a little wider than the rim would also look nice.

Also, Any suggestions for a GREAT a/s tire ( I dont want to buy a summer tire so I can limit the use of my snow tires as much as possible because Blizzaks wear like crazy)? I'm debating between MIchelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Positions. Any other suggestions are welcome.
I dont want to spend more than ~800 bucks + shipping/mount/taxes

If you go from a 225 to 265 your not making your tire taller your making it wider which will not throw off your Speedo & will not negatively affect your handling if anything your call will be grippier bc there's more contact with the ground ... But Idk if you can fit a tire that wide on a 7 inch wheel & did you mean you do or don't want a summer tire ? Kinda confusing lol

I don't think 265 would fit on a 7.5 inch rim and if it did I doubt it would look right. Most people who want a higher tread usually go up one size (ie 225/45 to 235/55) <-- Not sure if thats an accurate tire size. Haha Also I have TRD springs which have a one inch drop all around and do a nice job of shortening that gap and they handle all the horrible roads i've driven across without a problem.

I would not bump the tire width up that high, why do you even need to do that? Get a good tire and you will be fine.

Go to tire rack.com and see what they recommend but maybe keep the same or slight wider width, remember we're talking millimeters here so they are not very big! But change the aspect ratio meaning the 45 and go a little bigger to get a taller tire. On my 06xB I went from the 60 series to a 65 Series and gained almost an inch in diameter which brought the RPM down a little bit and corrected the error in my speedometer so 60 is almost exactly 60 miles an hour. It also filled the wheel well better leaving less than an inch of clearance when turned.

Also go TRD springs if your afraid of bottoming out. I bottomed out more on my stock springs, than I do with the TRD. Besides, you will loose the wheel gap and not sacrifice ride comfort by much

New tire question:
after 50+k miles, OEM Toyo Proxes are up for replacement.
I checked TireRack; Conti DWS and Michelin Primacy look OK to me.
In the past, with Acura RSX, had a good luck with Conti DWS.
Any suggestions as for new tire set for TC2?
thanks, Victor

My first car (02 avalon) had Michelin primacy, and those had a great ride. I trust Michelin with my life and have only experienced disappointment with any other brand. I have had goodyear, general, and yokohoma as well. I have been looking at kuhmo for my tc, but I think I'm just going to fork over the extra cash on the michelins in the spring because I'm always disappointed when I stray away. My only debate now is between summer and all season.

That sucks. I guess I'm not as hard on my car as I thought. I even did some burnouts, took corners faster than I should, and even some hard launches. For the most part I'm very grandpa in my driving, and i was religious with 5k rotations. I also had the stock yokohomas since my car is stick. I hear the Toyos are a softer compound, so idk if that makes a significant difference
