Default Interesting problem with an xA at work...

a couple of weeks ago, we had a xA come in that had a very well, unusual problem.

In order to start the car it had to have the Right turn signal up, then you turn the key and it'll fire right up.

I do believe this is a one off case that happened, but needless to say it was an oddity. The guy traded the car in for a new one with the same options, but were all stomped to what may have caused it.

it wasn't some sort of safety setup by an aftermarket alarm company perhaps?

weird, nonetheless..

Did the owner say it was a problem? Or did he just trade it in for another xA? Maybe it was one of those DIY theft deterrent mods? I'd definitely check the wiring, though...Especially if it has an aftermarket alarm.

sounds like something i'd do as a theft deterrant.. lots of cars in S fl have these, usually using the parking light circuit as it's failsafe..

Huh. But I would tend to agree...sounds like a alarm failsafe.

Could be wrong.

At first I'm thinking wiring problem, but really what kind of wiring would you need to do for something like that?

yep sounds like a kill switch. Or crappy alarm install. Having the right turn signal on could have thrown a ground or 12volts to a relay that had cut the starter wire.

Sounds like a short or a bad ground in the steering column? Wierd I been working on cars most of my life and I am a electrician never have ran into that one before.
