I was told the gas tank for xA was 10.9 gallons yet the bible says 11.9 If its 10 then i got 45mpg driving like a sissy and doing the speed limit. My lowest was about 22-25 and i averaged 100mph and it was all highway driving.

 

you don't calculate it by the size of your tank you bozo.. ; )

you calculate it by how much you REFILL your tank at the gas station! and how many miles your drove since your last top off! ; )

 

Owner since June 11th. ~40.5 Mpg. the last three fill ups.
65 miles one way to work taking about 55 minutes. Mixed road driving from 40 Mph to 75 - 80 if traffic allows. Last fill was at 390.6 miles @ 9.620 gallons to fill up.

 

I only have 2200 miles on it so far, but the mileaga has leveled out around 37 so far.

I use 91 octain, drive mostly highway, I keep the windows up as often as I can, and I DO NOT COAST! I live in Connecticut where it is all hills, you learn early here that coasting can get you killed by overheating the brakes. I tend to run with traffic so highway speed is around 70 to 80, I jackrabit in the city and spend lots of time in traffic.

I tried that 87 octain stuff, and I was getting about 31 mpg on it, so 91 is the way to go for me.

3.099 @ 37 mpg = About $.084 Per mile

Saveings using Super about $1.00 per 100 miles.
I drive about 300 miles pre week, so I actualy save $3.00 per week by paying more at the pump. Not to mention that I go to the gas station less often.

 

LeeD: you use size of tank and divide by miles driven for MPG BOZO! I watch my low gas light turn on and go another 50 miles so i have to fully fill up. Right now i only get about 310-330 miles on a tank. But I have a heavy body kit, 18's, and drive like a maniac. The only saving factor is performance mods helping ease engine stress

 

35 mpg city driving. But this is before I get bigger rims and start doing engine work. I wonder what it will be like after all that.

 

2005 xA Manual

41 mpg

Average speed ~55 mph, driving up and down lots of mountains. Cruise control is the best feature on my car!

Mods on my car include 17" x 7" Motegi Trak Lite wheels with 215.40.17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires, K&N filter for stock intake system, DC Sports axelback exhaust, and DC Sports 4 - 1 header. I run 87 octane gas from Tesoro Alaska and Royal Purple engine oil with factory filters.

Changing to my winter tire setup (factory wheels with 185.60.15 Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires) had no discernable effect on gas mileage over the same route.

 

Damn, that's pretty good. Especially with those 17" rims.

 

My best is 34.8 combined highway and city. Air and running rpms over 3k have a big effect.

 

My 2006 xA has had 4 tanks & the average is 30.63
with a high of 32.26, none of this on the highway.

I'm in Florida so the AC is on all the time & I have
racks & sometime a surfboard up there too...

 

2006 xA No engine mods. Stock tires and wheels (for Now).

First tank of gas was 32mpg.

Worst was when I drove back from Indianapolis and had to fill up with crappy 10%ethanol. That tank got me 29mpg.

Best tank was 37MPG. 70/30 Highway driving, and I stayed under 75MPH the whole time. Note I use 87 Octane Chevron gas, not that I think this matters.

Compared to my last car, this is saving me a gallon of gas every day that i have to go to work (6 days a week on average). I've not yet hit 2000 miles, BTW.

I have just finished my 3rd tank since buying my xA. Avg was 37.5 mpg...70%hwy/30% city. This car is saving me mad money on my commute! I agree that AC and staying under 75 mph are HUGE factors on mileage. Good thread!

 

I live in L.A. and I drive 2.5 mi to work on Santa Monica Blvd, meaning lots of lights close together, no real speed build up, but not bumper-to-bumper idling. When I don't drive Highway at all, I get about 21 mpg max. When I take a trip and drive all Highway, I get 32 mpg max, windows closed, usually a/c. Car is 4 months old.

 

what is the deal???? does mine have a problem, besides my lead foot? i average 28-30 around town and the best i've got was 32.5 on the highway, with the cruse set. any suggestions.....

 

I have done up to 39.5mpg. I have a 06 xB (weighs more + more wind resestance.) I have a YDR short ram intake, precission mufflers axle back & 17x7 wheels with 215/40R17 tires. That tank of gas I did about 60% driving at speeds of less then 40mph. The other 40% was spent at a speed range of 40-80mph. I have a manual & was shifting at around 2,000-2,500rpm. I have been able to hit the 39mpg range 2 times & for the life of the box, my average has been right about 35mpg. The vast amount of my driving is done on base, so the top speed I can go is 35mph..

1100 miles on it.
First tank was less than 30mpg which had me pretty freaked esp since i work on them daily.Second tank was slightly better 34mpg.

Changed my driving style to easy take offs,staying under 70mph and just cruising.She is seeing around 39mpg now..But drive over 75+ and beat on it and watch it suck gas.

I am going to try to get better mileage .Rite now,I'm getting between 33-37.My first purchase will be a Tornado Fuel Saver for this car that mite bump it up a bit ?My second is a K/N air filter or,another fuel saver?I know in a few months I will get "solid" hubcabs for my Xa .
I hope to achieve somewhere rite around 41-44 MPG?If I could do that I would be very happy. My best was 440 miles b4 fill up but I was on air ,lol.I have about 750+ miles on my 2006 Xa from what I have heard here I may still b breaking it in so I'm gonna do some regular driving b4 my next fill upto get at least a 1000 on my odometer.I have heard that gas prices r rising again,ouch!

 

I believe the filter may help with the fuel milage, but I've heard negative things about the "Tornado"...

 

Driving style will affect your fuel mileage more than anything else you do to your car. If you have cruise control, use it. Try not to go above 65 -- my best gas mileage comes from driving at 55, but speed limits are higher in most places. Accelerate slowly, and get off the gas early if you know you're going to stop, then brake gently. Check out the February issue of Car and Driver; one of the editors' columns has some good info about tests he did on fuel economy in a Lexus RX400h, which showed that driving style and speed had a profound effect on mpg numbers.

If you want to do some mods to your car, intake/header/exhaust can help improve fuel economy, as well as lighter wheels and removing unnecessary cargo to further reduce weight. Doing all of this, my fuel economy is up to 41mpg -- and that's driving up and down Alaskan mountains! I've also heard that a lighter pulley can help too, but I have no experience with that, myself, so I can't speak to its effectiveness.
