What's the max miles/gal you've seen on your xA?
Since it's the tail end of winter, going into Spring, I'm guessing it's probably safe to say that most of the numbers were w/o A/C, and likely with the heater, or just the fan.
I just checked my average for the first time and I must drive a little hard... I got 304 miles out of 11 gallons... 26.6 mpg
That's with a lot of highway miles doing between 60 and 80 mph depending on traffic and some city miles maybe 65% Highway and 35% City... I'll keep checking how I'm doing but I really need to simmer down a bit in the driving dept. !
Edit
My math was wrong... 27.6 MPG

I drive fast on the highway, the revs are usually at 4K doing 80MPH, factor in the 17" Enkei Wheels and the hard acceleration during take off from stoplights etc and I got some bad fuel mileage. Plus I downshift a lot to pass or just speed up after having to slow down for merges and stuff. I really need to pull in the reins on myself in this fuel comsumption aspect.

This top up, 1/2 way through another 9.5 gal (I'm driving full to Empty gas tank blinking), doing about 150 miles for about 5 gal.
No matter what, doesn't seem to want to get up past 31mpg that's on the xA's sticker.
No way is this xA going to get near 38mpg!
tires on 29 as recommended, auto trans.

1. retail of vehicles
2. insurance
3. type of gas recommended (reg/premium)
Just filled up again... This time it was 311.6 miles from 11.5 gallons= 27.1MPG However, I was running around like crazy this past week. Most of my I93 time was spent at 85MPH... And a lot of hard starts off the line. I am really gonna try and bring the MPG # up this week.
Hey, at least I don't have to run my V8 cars this much... I'd Really be hurting then!

My last tank took me whopping 370 miles!
When I filled her up, she only took 10.5 gallons... that's over 35 MPG folks!.... my best to date.
Oh yeah.... I never take my baby over 65 mph and rarely over 60.... what's the rush?

No real big rush here, unless I am trying to be in two places at once while managing the Security Officers/Accounts that I handle for the company I work for... However I have been changing my driving habits by always shifting at 2.5K instead of 4-4.5k, unless I am meging or something, and keeping it at 60MPH for the most part... We'll see how the next fill up goes!
New xA owner here!
I've had my 2005 xA almost 2 weeks now, but been doing a lot of driving!
Getting great mpg, i think!
1st tank: 34mpg
2nd tank: 37mpg
3rd tank: 39 mpg
I live in Philadelphia & have been doing lots of city & highway driving.
Stock Bridgestone Potenas, stock everything.

mine gets 30 no matter what. ive got an 05 red one with big rims/low pro tires. im bummed. when i first saw them in canada-toyota echo wagon-they had a 54!mpg (usa) sticker1. the reason i got it is cause of mileage. i dont care much about power. shes got 7k on her and i broke her in properly. could the wheels suck up that much? i drive fairly consevatively, half and half, near sea level. waht could i do to help mpg? k&n filter? exhaust? does anyone make a hi mpg comp chip? i love the car but 30? c'mon! eme @ wildlands1@yahoo.com
I voted 40 because, on a trip to Georgia we chose to run out of gas to see how many miles we could get out of 10 galons of premium gas during a 50 degrees day. We had run out of gas at a 7-11 parking lot on our way to the highway and decided to put exactly 10 gals for the fun of it. We drove 400.6 miles before we could not go any further. I think we stopped at 400 because we floored it a few times before we started really feathering the gas pedal hoping to make it to the next gas station
But we did not make it...
I had stock rims, Borla Intake, Borla Exhaust, Rear Spoiler and I had only one passenger just to give an idea of the conditions... Once I install a header and a cold air intake I will try again...

It's all of the details you guys have been talking about that affect gas mileage...a/c on, gunning it vs. a lighter driving style, not speeding to an excess on the freeway, etc. Oh, and tire inflation. Keeping it just a little higher than your Scion manual (or your door jam) tells you should help, too.
If you keep gas mileage in mind whenever you drive you'll get way better gas mileage. That is hard to do, though. Depends on what's truly important to you.
With all the value that's packed into this car, decent insurance rates, etc., overall this car is a great deal, eh?
Not to mention it's unique and very cool looks, too.

36 mpg here. 95% highway (but hilly highway). 65 mph with cruise control on and no A/C so far. 5 speed manual transmission. Pretty conservative driving overall because I commute 60 miles each way to school and need to keep the fuel consumption down. I have about 1200 miles on the car and hope the mileage will improve a bit still.
Where do you get a cruise control for the xA?

I have an automatic xA. My average for the last 4 months is 31.58. I drive on the freeway to get to work, and do some city driving on the weekends. Never really push the car. I really expected better from a 2400lb car with a 1.5 litre engine. My BMW wagon weighs almost twice as much and has a 2.5 litre 6 and gets 25mpg. I can even get 30mpg from the S2000 for effs sake.
