Default alternator problems ???

Ive had a slight squealing coming from the engine when the car is parked running, and this is after driving the car for about 15 mins..then today I had the battery almost die when I tried starting the car ,then I gave it a little time and it started but made a huge squeal like when your belt is a little cold.So Im wondering if my issues are alternator or belt slipping?Car only has 40k but Im the second owner I dont know how easy its first owner was on it.2005 Xa rs1

does sound like a belt is loose or maybe worn.....not to sure if the alternator would make the squealing noise..but i would check out the belt they tend to make noise if its to loose

40K ... its the drive belt, at the least. Try replacing that and see if that helps first, cause it will only cost you about $40.
