A/C Fan Blower Questions
I saw the post by RichBinAZ, and it gave a lot of insight, but I have more questions.
I am a first time poster long time reader...
The blower in my 2006 Scion xB quit blowing recently, and at first it was intermittent. I figured if it were a fuse and that was the problem, it would not turn back on later, that is after not working once, then working again. Also, it did not matter what setting I had the fan turned to, it either worked or it didn't work.
I thought the best thing to do first was to check the blower resistor, and let me tell you... as a 6'7 grown man, I have never contorted and bent my back in those types of angles. I eventually got the resistor out, and it looked like it was in good shape. It was not discolored nor broken in any spots.
I have been leaning towards the fan motor being bad, or what I have read, the "relay". I can not figure out what this relay is, or where to find it. What does it look like? is it under the hood? is it in the dash? does it have distinctive marking?
If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
p.s. I am from Florida, and it is only March, but the weather is already humid and hot.

His post does help, but I guess something I should have asked also is, what else could it be if the fan motor is not blowing?
Is the fuse to the fan motor under the hood in the fuse box or hidden in the cab? I heard it was the 40 amp one. Also, is it true that there is a relay that can be faulty as well? If so, where is the relay located, and does any one know exactly which fuse is for the fan motor? I have not found any documentation that explains which fuse is which.
So far I understand there is a resister, and I have pulled it out and tested it. I also understand that I should try pulling the fan motor and testing it out with the battery and some leads.
I appreciate any help,
jay

All you have to do is to get the test light and probe the wires going into the the blower motor. One needs + and the other needs -. Once you have results you go from there. Pulling the resistor and looking at it is a time wasting without being able to see the input and output voltage.
Here are all the wiring diagrams: http://scionlife.org/Scion_Docs/2004...ystemcircuits/
Here is how to use a test light: http://www.clubxb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42822
Good Luck!

Most likely worn brushes in the motor or a dead spot on the armature, you might be able to get your hand into the air box through the cabin filter hatch and give it a spin and see if it starts spinning, just watch your fingers!
I should of updated a long time a go. But this is what I did. I ended up ordering a new blower motor and before it arrived I tap on the blower relay with a screw driver. I have not had any more problems. Now I have a new blower motor in the garage and I bought a relay for the blower just in case if it starts to have problems again. Good luck.
I'm having a similar issue in my '06 xA, and going to attempt to figure this out, especially before the winter hits. It's stopped working twice, and kicks back on the next time I'm in the car, sometimes a few minutes after driving, some times immediately.
Are the diagrams for the xB similar to the xA?
I also was told to check fuses, but to be honest, there's missing fuses, and I can't figure out which one is going to cause the problems, the only one that was totally obvious to me was the relay.

I experienced issue as well and found it to act up in the extreme of the temps and when extreme temps change from morning/night...after checking fuses & resistor and pulled the blower fan motor out and connected to external power source without a problem. I found out that the power going to it isn't a full 12v and the resistors inside the fan motor are minimal to compensate but go bad easily over a few yrs. ...Bang on the motor like 'AP' suggested or get a new fan blower motor.
