Celica Engine Swap?

The xB is 100lbs. lighter then the celica but the aerodynamics are much better on the celica.
I wouldn't exactly say MUCH better. You are looking at 0.32 for the Celica vs. 0.35 for the xB. And you are right, you would only gain about a 10th by losing the extra hundred pounds. You might lose a few thousandths at the top end based on the drag coefficient.
Now if you had the bucks to spend, you could always adapt, or custom build a turbo kit for the swapped 2ZZ as well.

I think a better swap would be from the Yaris TS over in Europe. The yaris is on the same frame, has same engine, etc. But the TS bumps up the HP to 132.
It's a 1.8
I'm guessing it would be a simple bolt in swap given the similarities between the xB and the yaris.
Once it's released, might have to do some research.

OK... what we really need to know right now is does the current Yaris and the xB share the same motor mounts. This would be step one in the swap. If the current mounts are interchangeable, the mounts should be as well.
Of course, all that solves is physically bolting the motor into the car. It does nothing for us in the way of making sure there is clearance in the xB, or dealing with the engine management nightmare. You can bet that the ECU from the Yaris in Europe is not going to be similar enough to the ECU of the xB in the US to be plug and play.
Another thing to consider is for performance hopefuls is the compressor (supercharger) offered by TTE in Germany for the Yaris 1.5. Again, engine management will be the issue.

Getting a hold of the motors isn't going to be that difficult. They will be standard fair in all of the new Toyota compact models (Corolla, Matrix, etc.) What will be tough is making sure that the motor mounts for the Yaris TS will work in the current model xB, as well as working out all of the EMS bugs.
Talked briefly to a mechanic at the Toyota dealer about this today. He said the 2ZZ would match up nicely in the xA. He also said he had seen one done but I didn't get a chance to ask him when/where.
2zz-ge = VVTL-i = 180hp
Engine 1.8L four EFI DOHC with VVTL-i
Horsepower 180 HP@7600RPMs
Torque 130lb/ft@6800RPMs
Bore 3.11in (82mm)
Stroke 3.61in (85mm)
Compression ratio 11.5:1
Here's some pics of a 2000...

Models with this engine: ST231: 2000-current Celica GT-S
XXXX: 2002-current Matrix XRS
Now where do I find this thing???
I need LINKS!

1ZZ or 2ZR would be easier, less expensive swaps. Even if you include the TRD supercharger from the 1ZZ. In which case you get just as much peak horse power as the 2ZZ, but a better power band overall.
This has been discussed to death. No one around here has actually taken the leap of faith to take action though.

2zz was also in corolla xrs.
the yaris and xb/xa do share engine mounts now. but the yaris with the 1zz in europe has top have different mounts.
a trd supercharged 1zz is better than a 2zz. more torque ,

Like I have said since day one. Once I win the lottery or find a women that makes enough I am going to have over 300 hp in a xb! I would much rather drop 20 grand into the motor then ANYTHING else.
