the vvti-l motors have issues, its actually a yammaha motor. ive warranteed half a dozen of them at the dealership im at, all valvetrain failures. Lotus uses the engine with a modified cam and engine managment in the exige with a supercharger at 7 psi making 220+hp reliably, but like i said with a diffrent cam. They have too much lift and overlap and burn valves from toyota. I would rather swap in a 2az from the tc/camry or the mr2 motor and tranny. 1zz? cant remember. Basically the vvtil motor with a diffrent and more reliable head, easily turboed and capable of much much more power. and it will fit all youd need is motor mounts exhaust and a computer/harness wam done!

more than just the head is different , pistons , head , lift versus no lift , different ecu.

don't try and make me look stupid . theres much more than just the head that is different.

wouldent it be ezer to just bore the stock block out to 1.8 and run some forged internals, higher compression and maby some forced induction?

well if this was a detroit steel motor i'm sure there'd be enough room to bore it that large. but there isn't let alone the fact of overheating , the air requirements of a 1.8 trying to be met with a motor optomized for 1.5l.

don't know how many of yall know this but you can't legally swap a motor thats older then your car into your car, to be legal (and if you have emissions checks and all that crap you have to be legal) you have to put one the same year or newer then your car

correct it is illegal but if you do a good job most smog guys dont know that motor didnt come in the car surprisingly. especially if the motor says toyota on the valve cover

i would not bore the stock block, some companies might offer a closed deck sleeve kit but that would be about it and the only way to utilize it would be to do alot of head work, then a standalone ecu and WOW now youve vastly exceeded the price of a motor swap...hmm.....just find something that fits, lol. or make something fit!
motor/tranny, axleshafts, fuelline, ecu, mounts VROOM! its alot simpler then it sounds people dont be so intimidated

they fit a 22re into on, 400+ hp, not smog legal thats why its a drag/show xb (it was in one of the books a year ago) my suggestion would be to stick to the less the 2.4 liter new engines (06+) simply because if you want to drag race the cars are usually seperated (here atleast) by displacement less then 2 liters and up to v6 and above, I'd say until you can fit the 07 tc/08 xb motor into a current xb stick to the corolla modify the frame rail to get the six speed in and go for it

that 22rt car has never been finished

1zz or 2zz would be perfectly legal even in cali as long as the motor is the same model year or newer than the vehicle it is being placed into.

and if it says toyota and looks in place they might not notice till they do tests.

they'd only be fooled at first glance. then you'd have to say it's out of a blahbidy year corolla. the 1zz is a cleaner smog index than the 1nz so it'd be no problem smog wise.

the funny thing about that 22re xb was well one, it was never finished.
two the 22re ISNOT a performance motor and thats coming from somone whos put over 10,000$ into not one but two of them and everypicture of that thing has a BONE STOCK 22re in it....hmmm..... i understand mock up motors and all but come on. and if your going through all the trouble of making it rear wheel drive use a supra motor not a 8 valve single cam.

p.s. sometimes i wish i built a 7mgte but i love my 22r/e's

I dont know exactly what has been posted ... But I'm in the process of doing the swap. The Owner and President of KAAZ(who's a close close friend of mine) will part taking the mechanical side of the swap while my wiring guy is already working on the harness as we speak... Since I'm leaving in Febuary 14th... I expect to be up and running with a few bolt ons and the power FC by the time I come back in March... Shooting for 190 to 210whp
