Default exaust probs. i think, please help me out here

To day on my drive home every thing was fine then my xb got louder and louder. i also noticwe a sligt vibration in the sterring wheel. i pulled over and checked out the situation. i could not see anything wrong so i continued home.

buy the time i got home the vibration was worse. It is not a knoking sound just a vibration. My box is also idling a little off key but it is loud. when you stand behind it it sounds like it has a after market muffler, but it is stock. Also when i accelerate from a dead stop it almost bogs out. As well when as i push in the cluth to up or down shift the rps at about 2 sec to drop, normially they drop as soon as i hit the clutch.

ther is no noticable power drop, nor is there any real power gain. and i am extreamly confident that there is no engin issue, and there check engin light has not came on.

so what do you all think it is, possible a pluger cat converter, or is my muffler shot, or could some thing be wrong with the exashu pipe itself, i could not see any problems.

please help.

Just got back from active green and ross cause my local toyota shop is closed for the long weekend. they had no real idea what was wrong. i was able to establish that there is no leak in the exaust system, however the muffler seemss to be half empty.

my question is wopuld a shot muffler cause a vibration in the sterring wheel and peddels? the guy at AGR thought maybe a loose motor mount?

but i find it wierd that al the sudden the muffler is no good and a motor mount is loose at the same time. You have to understand that this all haddend last night on my drive home before that no poroblems at all.

has any one else exp. this prob, any one have any suddjestions?

thanks

yes a rattling bust up muffler could cause that much vibration , block exhaust flow and hurt idle as well as become much louder.

well went to Toyota and got the problem fixed. It appears that last week when i had an oil change done the guys at jiffy lube left a wrench some where in the engine bay, that little 3\16 wrench wedged its self between the block and the header and caused all that mess.

Apaerntly the hearder and block where a hair apart and royaly messing up my back pressure.

THANKS to JIFFY LUBE for a A1 JOB!!!!!!! Time to find a nother place to do my oil changes.

In the end it cost me $14.95 plus i gave the mechanic the wrench to hang on his wall of shame.....

Whoah!!! Eff that! A wrench left in the engine bay could've severely messed up a lot of stuff. That's why I won't go there for an oil change... not to mention the fact that they were apparently using an SAE wrench on the car...
