Intake...Out B-4 Seing Dealer?
I’m heading to dealer first thing in the morning for my first free oil change, and I was wondering if anyone knows why I might want to put the stock air box back on b-4 I go? The ride has 5K on it know and I have the extended warranty. Would an after market intake give them any room to beach at me?
if it's not an "approved" by scion part, then i think they will beach at you. the dealer explained this to me very clearly. any aftermarket part that is not approved by scion, will void the warranty.
intake wont void the warranty, only if they can prove the aftermarket part caused the warranty claim.
ie: driving in a lake & hydro locking the motor... not covered
leave it on, its not going to hurt anything.

That sucks. But no to well if I go putn that stock crap back on.
So basically if I pay 385 for the trd intake which is not smog legal in Ca. VS the Injen Which is smog legal that was only 150 or so, then Im good? That blows way more than it sucks.
Man I should get into the dealer stuff.

You're just going in for an oil change they dont have a reason to even look at your intake. Dont purchase stuff from the dealer, you can get it cheaper on other websites, if you prefer to not void the warranty you can have them install the stuff because then it is covered under their installation warranty.
Don't worry about it. It won't void your warranty. There is a great thread that Thomas did somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. It basically says that if the dealer can't absolutely prove that the particular part caused the problem, then they have to honor the warranty. Don't stress.
i have a question.. what if i have an K&N typhoon intake which is not carb exempt for a scion xa 06 model. would that void the warranty? you guys says its ok but in my case my intake is not approved for a 06 model ;( . i have one free oil change left!
No need to worry during an oil change... But if you ever need warranty repairs, or have a CEL (check engine light) or something, the dealer will use any aftermarket parts as an excuse.
My dealer actually tried to get out of investigating my CEL because I had RIMS!

Don't ever trust the dealer! Even if the car is bone stock and under warranty they will try to find any reason to make YOU pay for repairs.

they cant just void your warranty when they see an aftermarket part because of the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT .....the reason they tell u can only use their parts is becuase they are the stealership and overprice things...and if they try to just print out the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT and hand it to them and tell them to shove it
