Default Loud Exhaust Help!

Hey all-

Got my toaster about 6-8 months ago from a guy in NY. It was quite modified, including a rather loud exhaust. I don't know if it improves performance or what, but it is too damn loud. Here's my question to you. Do I need to replace the exhaust, or go with another option?

To replace it, I can get a cheap OEM one from ebay for just over $80 shipped. I assume the installation should be straight forward. My other option is buying a silencer tip from ebay, but I am not sure, a) how effective those are at silencing b) if it will effect gas mileage or hinder the exhaust system in some way.

I'm not sure if I can modify the existing exhaust in some other manner to quiet it down, I don't know much about it (as you can probably tell from my ignorance in the decision). Any help is appreciated, I can't stand how loud the exhaust is on the highway. Oh, and thanks for entertaining a newb.

PS. I LOVE my xB!!!

well if its just a simple bolt on aftermarket exhaust then yes it should be simple enough to change out at the clamp...

if its welded on then just head to an exhaust shop to get it installed...

what jct said. And yes you will need to buy a new exhaust or find someone with an OEM who is willing to sell.

This is the best and cheapest solution for the OP. The stock muffler has a nice sound of its own, very pleasant in summer with all the windows down.

Yea, get the OEM exhaust, I recently went back to it myself, it's great. Actually, with the header on, it sounds great.

sorry to double post, just want to thank everyone for chiming in to help. Before my xB, I owned a lexus IS 300, and never wanted to ask a question on the car's forum, for fear of being reamed out by more knowledgeable members. You guys/girls seem pretty laid back. Thanks again!

You'll find that our corner of SL is pretty chill.
