You can see a Short Ram better than a CAI? I don't think so. Most of them are tucked away and leave a big blank spot where the airbox was. My CAI is definitely a mod you can see. and when it gets wet out, you bust it in half and it looks just like the first one pictured with no chance of hydrolock. As far as performance, the time when a CAI outperforms a Short Ram is from a standstill. That's when the SRI will be pulling hotter air. Once you are moving and air is rushing in, there will be little difference, other than the tuned length of a CAI.

And as for the previous debate on HP gains, since you most likely won't be at 4200RPM at takeoff, the whole argument of are you getting 108 hp is kinda moot. Don't forget, HP without the @ is about as useful as an email address without it...

Drowning? Seriously, what person in here would willfully drive their car into water deep enough to go halfway up their wheels regardless if they had a CAI or not? You're better off owning a canoe than a Scion if you're tredging through water that deep.

Thats why those are called cold air intakes.

The air up towards the top of the engine bay is much warmer than the air inside the bumper near the headlight, away from the hot engine.

Nope, even most of the "short ram" intakes for the xB locate the filter behind the headlight. Most of the CAI just add a 90* bend and move the filter down a little lower.

I'm just talking about the one pictured which takes air from up top. I'm aware that the Injen short ram and some others take air from behind the headlight.
