transmission help
i have an 04 xb 5spd, and my transmission is making an odd sound when in gear. the sound goes away when the clutch is pushed in or is in neutral, but as soon as it engages it sounds horrible. it drives no differently, no slipping or grinding when shfting, just sounds like something is rubbing horribly

Btw, your powertrain warranty should be 5 years or 60K miles...which ever comes first!

Just to clarify, the throw-out (release bearing) & input shaft bearings are 2 different things. The release bearing works with the clutch pressure plate to engage/disengage the clutch. The input shaft bearings (2) are in the transmission & hold the ends of the input shaft which have your gears (1 to 5) on it.
From what I've been told and expirenced myself both the T/O bearing and the transmoission itself sucks on this car. With that statement off my chest...
I would probably guess its the T/O bearing unless you're like me and tried to rape the ____ out of your xB, then its most likely an input shaft bearing, or even worse the rest of the transmission like in my case. Either way if your car is still under warranty go to the dealer.

dude my transmission may be jacked. i took it in today and they pulled out the dip stick and they said it looked like liquid metal. but in my case it has a chatter sound wen i slightly let off the gas. and everyonce in a while it will have like a thunp. does anybody have any ideas wat it could be? and shouldnt the warranty cover it?
