Default what causes RASP?

Rasp - we all hate it. well, at least I haven't read anything on the coffee can, the fart can, the "ricer" sound in a positive light.

so what's the main cause for the raspy sound? is it the muffler only? is it the dia. of the pipe? is it the bends in the pipe? is it a combo?

would a header have any effect on the "rasp"? if so, what?

From what I have heard, if you remove the resonators it will sound nasty. There is prolly alot of other factors, but that is all I know of.

Pls forgive me if I ask a stupid question, but is rasp that farting sound when your engine rev up to a certain point? If say I were to have a header and it's making the rasp sound now, is there anyway I can get rid of that sound without changing the muffler? Thanks.

i wonder if it is just certain mufflers and how they are made?

ive got a Strup header & exhaust and an Injen sri...mine does not sound raspy it all...it sounds like a deep growl, sounds nice and mean..though it is a little louder now that ive got the header installed
