Default On the fence with a TC or SC

I've been bouncing around between going SC or TC for a while and I am still unsure. I thought I was set on a S/C but I guess not. to help me make my decision I am going to write out a pros and cons list of each of my top choice SC and TC and you guys can make comments or changes to what I have.

ZPI Turbo

Pros

Mid Mount Turbo
150-180whp
tune-ability
able to maintain decent MPG

Cons

Mid Mount Turbo
More pressure on the engine
Heat(not really sure of) on tranny
difficult install
not 100% bolt-on

Greddy Supercharger

Pros

120-140whp
easy install
instant power
Cheaper
reputation
dependable
100% bolt-on

Cons

parasitic(damage on engine)
psi not easily adjustable
worsen the MPG

after reading my own list I have formed a question what would be harder on the engine, affecting the longevity of the car? the 6-8 psi from the turbo, or the 4-6 psi from the supercharger with its parasitic attributes?

Also, heat has become one of main concerns with the turbo along with the difficult install could someone shed some light on these cons of the turbo so I can make a better decison.

I want power, but I don't want to have to worry about the car. I want to be able to drive around safely and not be stuck on the side of the road or constantly looking under the hood and car. basically I want to put dependability, reputation, and easy install on the ZPI pro list.

You can always buy my kit and get ZPI to install it for you.. I can get you a good deal on both.. I personally like the turbo route more than the SCer route.. I studied the SCer for a long time before I went with a turbo setup.. Both will or can cause stress on the motor.. So you mise well get the most out of your kit for the money.. Let me know if you want me to PM you pricing on my kit and the install price from ZPI.. I'll get you hooked up.

I'd love to if I had the money. I don't think that I would drive to ZPI to get it installed though. I don't have the time. maybe if I did it over summer than that could be possible. How much are you asking for it?

Damaged very little at all.. If you guys could actually feel how solid this setup is.. you would be amazed. It is rock solid and could handle lots and lots of abuse.

As for water.. you may get a little bit of a spray from puddles in the filter, but it would take a very big puddle for you to get to the airfilter ( water would have to be up to atleast where the body panels of the car start). To submerge the filter completly in water.. would take a puddle that would almost reach your bottom door jams.. and you would have more problems then putting water into your engine at that point.

Like what?

If I did have enough money that would be the only thing I would second guess about. Is there any way to raise it? How much hp were you getting (estimated) and with what kind of mods?

Like flooding your car and engine all in one fail swoop.. It's a box.. not a boat.

You could have ZPI make another down pipe, that would help raise it up. WHP on my auto I would say was 140- 150, compared to other vehicles around the same weight with the same whp. A 5- speed will net more whp, due to running a bigger wastgate spring and less parasitic loss in the transmission.

Hmmm SC or TC that is the question. Do you want more power down low or at higher RPM's. For down low go SC for mid-high end go TC (tho the SC adds at these rpms as well). If I was to do one of these 2, I would choose SC simply because in my city driving situation the low end grunt form the SC would be more usable than the power made after wind up of the turbo.

thats true but I would like it for highway use. I spend a lot of my driving on the highway so maybe low end wouldn't be a necessity for me.

ProshopXB, if I could get enough money I would take that turbo off your hands. Maybe next month I will have enough money. If I can get enough by late January and you still have it I will definately be talking to you. That is a good price for a practically new turbo. I have an A/T and it would be a perfect, since you have an auto.
