HI all, I'm new to the forum though I've had my flint mica scion baby for about 5 months already!
The radio changing stations on me is very freaky and I did take it to the dealer when I went in for the oil change and told them about it, they looked at me like I had two heads and claimed they never heard about that. They then said they checked it and did not find anything. Shouldn't all the dealers be aware of this by now?
In any case, I guess I will print the above out and take it back to them to replace my radio (which exhibits this problem at least once a day!).
Thanks all, glad to see I'm not nuts or somehow causing this issue on my own!

So finally i just called the scion hotline, told them my dealer was practically calling me a liar. They told me that the 2006 radio glitch was a common problem, and that every dealer in one way or another knows about it. Weather or not the service managet told anyone was another story.. So, they went ahed and called my dealer for me, and made me an appointment to have my radio switched out with no questions asked. When i brought it in, they all looked like they were mad at me LOL. I bet the call from scion wasnt a very pleasent one!
So.. my advice to anyone having problems with your dealer on this subject.. CALL THE SCION HOTLINE. They will make an appointment for you to get it switched out without you having to deal with the dealership!
If you need to look at the actual TSB, here's a copy:

The dealership should give NO hassles about replacing the radio if it is not a 'black dot' radio.

I had a problem like that with a GM dealer, they wouldn't believe the TSB i downloaded off the net was real.. even though it came from their own "private" GM dealer service site.. Luckily I took it to another dealer, and they knew exactly what I was talking about.. some dealers are just stupid..
Heh. My 2006.5 exhibited the problem last spring, when I first bought it, but not over the summer, when the weather was warm. Now it's acting up, channels jumping up...
Somewhere between Toyota and the dealership, they've managed to make it a pita for the customer...
Had to take it in for them to examine it. Told the service writer I knew there was a service bulletin... she said that people see that there's a bulletin, and think it means their car, when it might not, so her techs have to look at it first...
Stand around for an hour and 15, and, yup, sure enough, they'll replace it, on warranty, but they have to order it.... and they can't do it on a saturday, because they have to be in touch with the Toyota tech guys at the time, and they're not open on saturday...
They'll let me know when it comes in...
Had the first oil change while I was there, they tried to charge me for it... quickly backpedalled, though... Ooops!
I'd forgotten why I avoid dealership service depts the way you'd avoid a hooker with AIDS, but now, now I remember...

I saw somewhere on the net thats there was a problem with 06 radios i have an 06 but not the prob have rs 3.0 alpine radio there was a fix i believe for this too. I ll try looking for this again and post site.
I have an 06 but with a different problem. During the first week i got my car the radio would turn off on its own out of no where. Not really sure what was the problem and it wouldn't turn back on for like a minute or two when i tried to turn it back on. I am happy to say that it was only a problem for like two weeks and has never happened again. I have had the car for almost a year now.
yea my radio is set to 90.3 it changes (for sirius) and then it changes after i turn it on. Man it is freakin wierd.
But i am lookin into getting the eclipse avn7000 dvd/nav system tonight sooo

Kenny, you might want to run by the dealer with your OEM head unit and get the TSB taken care while it is still installed. What you are describing is EXACTLY what the TSB is about, and they should replace the unit without question. (https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...812123#1812123)
If you don't get that taken care of, you will be stuck with a defective unit and whoever you try to sell it to will probably be stuck with a defective unit with no way to get it fixed.
So, get it replaced with a good unit so you can sell it without a problem when you get the aftermarket one you want.

One thing I have noticed is MY radio changes frequeny once or twice a week by itself.
For instance while driving - it moves just off the station frequency I was listening to all by itself. This situation has NOT gotten worse (since Sept when I received the XB).
I like the radio, like the SSP (Scion Signal Processing) etc. Plays both CDs and MP3s burned to disk just fine. Allows me to plug in the MP3 Player to the radio and play the MP3 player through the radio when I press the AUX button. It covered all the base and most bass needs.
Does anyone else experience this station changing?
Thanks

My xB was made in Feb 06. So far its radio has not had the problem. Is it possible to see the back of the radio without removing it, to see if it has the black dot? If my radio does not have a black dot, I would like to get it replaced now rather than wait for the problem to appear at an inconveinient time or after the warranty has expired.
It's not really when the car was made, Allan, but when the radio was installed by the dealer.
Since the cars don't come with radios (they are all dealer installed), it depends on which radio they grabbed off the shelf. If your radio was made AFTER Toyota fixed the problem on the production line, or if the dealer swapped out all radios on the shelf for newer 'black dot' radios, you could easily have one without a problem. Oddly enough, even some made during the time there was a problem, don't have a problem.
I haven't looked for/seen the 'black dot,' but I suspect it is on the label on the BACK of the unit, and can't be seen while installed...
Sorry!
