I have always had bad luck with Optima batteries. I've known car stereo shop owners who dumped them because of the high return rate on defective batteries and Optima would screw the dealers over by prorating the price of the battery while the dealers had to replace them for the customers.

If you want a spiral cell battery, you should check out the Exide batteries. They can be found pretty cheap and have a great warranty. Otherwise, just go to Costco and get yourself a battery there. They have an awesome exchange policy and inexpensive batteries, even the Optima if you want to take your chances. There isn't much magic to batteries, some have more capacity than others. You'll get bad batteries once in a while so it's important to have a battery that has a good warranty or exchange policy.

I'll offer a slightly different opinion. I had an Optima Red Top for years and I happened to think it was an excellent battery. I would recommend it. Mark

I've had a couple Red top Optimas over the years and have been lucky with them but none of the local dealers seem to stay with them too long because of their high return rate. They seem to have an unusually high number of bad batteries.

Personally, I like the Optima yellow tops. I've never had any problems with them. I've had them in 3 different cars (93' Pontiac Grand AM, 02' Monte Carlo, & 05' xB.) It's just up to you on how you feel. All deep cycle batteries are the same. I hope that this helped. Peace.......
