Default Door speakers - Wiring

I'm almost done installing new front speakers on my tC... down to the wiring. Made my baffles, ripped the stock out.... then came the problem:

Which wires are the ground wires for the tC door speakers?!

What you want to do is cut the factory wiring for the speakers about 1-2" away from the plug in the door. Strip the coating off the wire to expose about 1/4" or a bit more, then connect the plug back on the stock speaker.

Find a 9 volt battery(small square ones), and connect the wires to it, one on + the other wire on -. the speaker will move in or out. If the speakers moves in, teh wires are connected backwards, and if the speaker moves out, then you have figured out which wire is + and which is -.

hmmm....I've never heard of this method before......interesting though...... I've always just hooked them up and listened to see if they were out of phase or not....but it takes a good ear to do this......

Isn't there a TC wiring guide floating around here with the wire colors? Or is there just the XB one.

Are you amping? If so, I'd have to advocate pulling new wire.

um the dark wire is the negative , you can also tell by looking at the back of the speaker and then tracing back up to the wires which one is negative or not.

I just listened to see if it was out of phase... either way, after all my work, the speakers I had (which had been sitting in my closet for 2 years) were blown.

Oh well... once I get my eDi 6500's and NINe.4 I'll be able to start alot farther along in the install.

I too have used the 9volt method for determining proper phase. Works well and is a good visual aid rather than listening for any differences.

But yeah, I would run new wires if you are amping your components.
