Default Humming while using 06 Aux Port.. *56k warning*

Issue: (The following two paragraphs used with permissiong from edlin)
"There are two issues I know of in the Scion XB that I have had to work on.. One im still working on. First is the ground loop isolation which you guys have already covered. But on that note, Id like to state that there is almost no difference between the 40 dollar monster ground loop isolator and the 9 dollar one you can pick up a radioshack/frys. I have them both, and swap em out trying to tackle other issues all the time..

Theres two types of non-inductive noise you will run into, alternator whine, and ground loop hum. The alternator noise can be fixed by a power filter and/or better grounding of your device. The ground loop comes from your poorly grounded device trying to ground out through the rca cables. The isolator prevents the grounding part, the power filter saves up a little power and adds it in at the right moment to smooth out the powerline... kinda like a big cap on a stereo.. Oh and ground loop hum is constant, and doesnt change with the reving of your engine.. alternator whine goes up and down with your rpms. "

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought I'd just show others where I'm hiding my ground loop filter I purchased to take care of a humming I was receiving w/ my satellite radio through the factory aux port in my 2006 xB.

Link of where I purchased my ground loop filter is here -

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Zx4omM4...ch=ground+loop

Picture of the ground loop filter and it's ends:

Remove center console by removing screw from rear cup holder and pulling on the center console near the front to release the tabs that hold onto the console:

I didn't remove the console just tilted it enough to pull the male end of the filter through the e-brake. I considered doing it through the tab next to it although I figured through the e-brake would look cleaner (to me):

Reverse the same steps to put the center console back. Here are some additional pictures I took.

Finished product:

The other cables your see are the antenna for my Sirius that I just put under the drivers seat and ran it under the console.

I will not be held responsible for anything that goes wrong. There is a harness located around the area I left the filter although it shouldn't cause any issues.

If anyone has any questions, post em up or PM me.

EDIT: I've added a poll due to being very curious if this is a possible production issue or not.

Yes, I get the same noise as well. I ordered this filter, but Crutchfield is out of stock. I hope it helps.

Bump for a good poll.

glad to see that PAC piece took care of the problem. A load off your mind I'm sure.

I just had the same issue with xm radio in my 06 tc (humming and alternator whine) but the filter from Crutchfield cleaned everything up nicely.

5 problems out of 6 people who have used the aux port + power kinda looks like there's an overall grounding issue with the 06's. Still love the car though, and with the filter the sat radio sounds great.

Got part from crutchfield yesterday. Used aux input without isolator (buzzing) and with (buzzing gone). So, I'd say this classifies as a fix.

Whups! Your entire "Sirius" directory is missing over at Earthlink, Maria...

No pics.

Since Crutchfield is out, does the one from Radio Shack work as well? I have a PSP hooked up to my aux port (see profile pic), and I get the same hum/whine when listening to podcasts.

Thanks!

Here's one of the other threads on this topic that I found using search for "ground loop" -

Looks like the Radio Shack unit works fine.

Good luck!

Would it matter if I cut off the RCA plugs and mounted this under the center console in my'06 xB? I don't really want this hanging out around my clean looking AUX input.

Thanks!

It could be spliced in or otherwise concealed, no problem. Just make sure the input and output sides of the ground loop isolator remain separate.
