...makes me feel like a n00b...
Hi, all, I'm looking for a source for a 'reverse wiring harness' for the '06.5 xB OE head unit.
Not the standard flat-pin connectors, those are available at all sorts of places, cheap, but a connector with pins/wires for the 20 small-pin connector (AUX in and speed lead).
I don't need the OEM stock harness with all the extras, but just the starter set that will give me the connector that plugs into the head unit and a few wires sticking out so I can build my own assembly from there. (Heck, I'd even settle for the connector shell and pins and make my own from that.)
Yeah, I know, I did a search, but only found one reference to a guy who doesn't make that little harness anymore.
If anyone has info on where to get what I'm looking for, speak up!
Thanks,
Tom

That's a similar connector, but for outputs on some older Toyotas rather than inputs and remote controls on the new Scions. It has a mix of two different kinds of pins, since it carries power, and no shielded leads. Oh, and the connector shell won't fit the newer 20-pin on the head unit.

Thanks, Streetlethal, Ive sent my "standard request" to them now, after going through all of their Scion stuff.
I've sent that to two other vendors on eBay, so far only one has responded:

I'm looking for a "reverse harness" to plug into the 20-pin connector on the back of my 2006 Scion factory head unit (I have a 2005 Scion that is minus that particular harness).
One of the folks at ScionLife.com linked to your items, as they fit various Toyota/Scion head unit connectors, but from the descriptions it doesn't seem as though they cover the 20 pin. Here is a pic of the connectors on the back of my Scion/Pioneer basic factory head unit: http://tijil.org/ToyotaPioneer_connectors.jpg and here is the wiring: http://tijil.org/xB_2006_HU_wiring.gif
The only leads I plan on extending from the 20-pin are the audio input (3.5mm stereo jack) and speed lead for auto volume adjust.
If the reverse kits you have listed on eBay don't include this harness (and I don't think they do), do you have one that does? I'd even settle for the connector shell and pins - I'll add the wires and shielded cables it needs if I have to. :o)
Thanks for your time!

I am not making anymore of this cable.
To answer your 2nd question, these is a circuit to make it work. If you are willing to pay $10 to my paypal account, I can send you the circuit diagram and show you how I made my custom 20 pin connector.

No problem, hope they work out for ya!
if you don't have any luckwith the scosche TAO2 or any of the ebay vendors, PM G-NIZZLE on here

he makes the 'subplug' that is very popular with people adding a sub to the factor HU

The TA03 is a little closer, in that the shell is quite similar to the 20-pin on the head unit, but instead of being all computer-like pin connectors, four of the connections are still Molex in that one. It is the "external amp" connector for some older Toyotas. (And it's the female, anyway, that would plug into the car's wiring harness, not the reverse - male - that would plug into the HU.)
I'll drop Scosche a note and ask if they have, or plan to have, or know anyone who does have the reverse plug that plugs into the HU for the 20-pin "input and remote control" connector on '06 and newer Scions.
(I find it interesting that my old original '05 HU ALSO has that connector - I wonder if the standard original units could accept an input, and have remote buttons, just like the newer units could if someone just plugged in an appropriate harness...)

Got a response from autoware302@verizon.net ...

No I am sorry I have nothing like the 20 pin you are looking for just the reverse for the basic and only the aftermarket for a couple of the JBLs from toyota

Well, after not getting any answers I liked, I finally stopped by RadioShack and bought a "D" submini female connector for about a buck and a half. It comes as the shell and a strip of female contacts. They look like this:

One simply breaks off the tiny female contact, stuffs a wire into the proper end of it, crimps and solders the connection, and pushes it into the shell where it clicks in place.
Instead, what I did is to take a contact from the strip, crimp and solder a wire, and slip a length of shrink-wrap over the joint, covering all but the last 1/8th inch at the open end of the female contact.
I tightened up the "fingers" of the contact a bit so it would grip the Head Uhit pin tightly (the HU pins are a little bit smaller diameter than the "D" submini's are).
At the "other end*" of the wire I used a crimp-on tap connector to tap off the proper pin of the "Door Lock Control Relay" module for the ECU speedo feed.
I then simply slipped the female connector onto the correct pin at the rear of the HU, and put the dash back together enough to drive.
I took off, punched the volume **** and sure enough the ASL option popped up and I was able to adjust it.
Drove back up the driveway to the carport and finished putting the dash together.
Now I can go ahead and at my leisure construct a set of cables for the remote aux input, and just make one in the same manner. It may look odd, and is a PITA to connect each pin individually, but, hey, it works.
Thanks to all who tried to help!
