Optional xB tail lights, bulbs, LED's etc.
OK, I got the dealer option tail lights on my xB. I like the look except the backup light is just sitting there naked behind a completely clear lens, looking no cooler than a flashlight. So I was thinking of replacing just the backup bulbs with LEDs. It looks like it'll take an 1156 single contact bulb (whereas the stock unit takes 7440s). Am I right? Any technical problems doing this?
Seems like there was a post earlier and someone said the LED bulbs were too big and didn't fit through the holes in the tail light. I don't remember if they were talking about the stock ones or the TYCs. You might be able to search and find it.
If an LED bulb doesn't fit, you can open up the light and put it in from inside. I've opened up the stock (non TYC) tails a number of times. Just throw it in the oven at 250 degrees for about 5 minutes, then use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the lens off.
